I myself haven't managed to bring it down to 30 names, but I'm trimming my lists every so often. Granted, a lot of my wants are utterly unrealistic and will never get made, but still, I want to be around the 100s tops, and trim realistically from there. I've said it before, but for me this is a collection that I want to represent certain bits of my childhood, I don't want to do this forever or go overboard. I'm setting new rules as I go on, to keep it more consistent too.I know what you mean re: this hobby. I have set myself a 30 1/6 scale figure limit and a total of 100 items in the collection limit. This limit isn't due to money, but more so because I need to have a limit for this stuff and I will sell other figures to accommodate new ones.
But yeah, in the end it's not so much the money; if you've spent thousands already it's not the 3 extra figures that'll hurt you. It's just that the more peripheral characters you buy, the less special the others become, and in the end this collection is nothing more than Hasbro for a richer blood.
I've only POed the standard Joker so far, but from the already announced figures I'm in for BaleMan, Paul and Harry Potter. I want an Aragorn too, but I'll wait until a RotK version. I'll hold over until a sequel for a Battinson too. Honestly, seeing the IA Pennywise made me really think about what I want from this collection. He's a character I have no interest in, but the sheer craftsmanship blew me away. These figures are centrepieces, period. And then I look at the majority of HTs based on the plasticky MCU designs, with all the pleather and visible joints and awful stands, and think to myself "is this what I want to spend my money on?". The strength of this scale are the soft goods and headsculpts, so moving forward I'll be trying to stick close to such figures. Some classics, some favourites and I'll get to represent a wide array of interests. I'll make some compromises for some very specific characters and I'll take what I can get, but more or less I'll be sticking by this rule of aesthetics. So far I'm 3/3 for the InArt releases - they've all been characters I love and they've all been awesome. Once Battinson is released for pre-order, I'll likely be in for that too, but I will compare it to the HT version and do a cost analysis e.g. if the InArt costs $200 more but is only 10% better, the HT will be good enough. For me, I am happy to invest in the best versions of the characters that make the top 30.
