Curious where you saw this? Maybe it’s a regional thing, can’t find it on the Australian schedule but I did find there will be new Justified on the 19th and new Futurama on the 21st so I’m glad I saw that :)

I think someone mentioned box office this year, this is US in year box office so far for 2023:

Watched "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" last night. Where are these sorts of films now? I saw that as a kid and loved it. Maybe kids are just thick as 2 planks these days and ADHD ridden mongrels???
How do you compare anything nowdays to Cuckoos Nest, it is a classic book and amazing adaptation that got all the top Oscars.

But this year Master Gardener and Asteroid City are excellent and last year things like All Quiet On The Western Front, After Yang, The Fabelmans.

Nearly any year in the 70s was incredible but 75 alone gave us Cuckoos Nest, Jaws, Three Days Of The Condor, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Man Who Would Be King, Dog Day Afternoon, Picnic At Hanging Rock, Nashville, Night Moves, Rollerball, Salo, Rocky Horror, Barry Lyndon, Eiger Sanction, Deep Red. Say what you will about the quality of some of these, but that is a banner year right there. And yeah Network (76) is amazing.

Wow it's even more sad seeing how many extra screens were devoted to DOD compared to literally everything else this year.
Yeah wow I hadn’t noticed that, more than anything else in the list. It’s not in that list but the Jennifer Lawrence film No Hard Feelings is doing very well, $31m on 3200 screens less than two weeks.

You should go and run a studio... With thinking like this we might actually get some good movies (although, you'd probably be shown the door before you could implementing anything :( )

I'm at a point now where I'm going back and revisiting old films I haven't seen for years. It's a joy and insanely disheartening at the same time.

I also recently watched/loved Cuckoo but that statutory **** dialog from McMurphy at the start (doc's office) hasn't aged well - at all.

Especially given that just two years later, Polanski was arrested for the same crime - committed at Jack Nicholson's house.

Wow. Okay. I'm coming to the realization that I need to back out of here SLOWLY and not look back. There more reactions that are coming in are showing me that not only am I not the audience for this stuff anymore, I question if I saw the same movie.

It's just odd. While I read these posts and the movie has sunk in more, I find I'm loathing it even more than the night I saw it. I hope the next whatsit comes along soon and catches everyone's attention to move away from this (Cruise's upcoming stunt reel I'd guess). I hated what Kennedy's Lucasfilm has done to Star Wars. AND THIS IS WORSE.

I'm really glad you liked it Wor-Gar (and the rest of you) and that you've somehow spared yourselves the disappointment that has slammed me so much from seeing a beloved movie icon turned into a literal punchline and being okay with it. This movie was right down there with that insipid Kenobi series for me. My only consolation is that Disney is going to be punched in the financial face for this. And the irony isn't lost.

Have fun folks. See you on the other side.
Sounds like the force awakens, initially most liked it because they wanted a new star wars movie and to an extent the same here but once the dust settled a few months to a year later people saw it for the bad movie it was.

Curious how many people watched this movie without watching any trailers or has a general ideas of the story. Basically how many of you knew nothing about this this show except Indiana Jones was in it?

Ok… Quick thoughts

Liked… Did not Love. I hated nothing in the film. Which is a huge step up from KOTCS but I did not have Jye and Khev feelings for it. Middle of the road for me… Which is not a bad thing for a guy in his 80’s

I did love the opening 20 min. Could have left the theater then and been more than happy. The way events played out it’s almost like they say “hey if you don’t like the rest you can always just watch this and turn it off”

The look of the film was good. Ford was good though there was a line or two that felt phoned in but I think that was more to do with the lines he had to say than Ford not caring
Was not nuts about the tragic even in Indy’s life. Don’t really see Indy films for that but oh well

Wait there is one thing I hate where the **** is Short Round???!!!!! Come on! It’s like they were setting it all up. First Indy film to make mention of the events in TOD and it seemed that they were trying to prepare you with Lady Indy picking up her stray kid the same way. Come On!!!!!

I have a few complaints.

1. Film was too long for what it had to offer.

2. No truly great or memorable action scenes

3. Indy got sidelined a few too many times. I mean did he do anything in the final 30 to 40 mins???

Otherwise still a good film. It’s a tank chase scene away from being about on the same level as TLC

1. ROTLA - 10/10
2. TOD - 9/10
3. TLC - 7/10
4. DOD - 5/10 (1 truly great action scene with old Indy would have helped for sure)
5. KOTCS - 3/10

2. No truly great or memorable action scenes

This more than anything. A big roaring fight with multiple complications feels like something they forgot about... or Ford simply could not do believably. Hence why the little kid took out the Big Thug (one of my prime disappointments).

It also lacked the usual gruesome deaths. Just Voller's remains after the fact was the nastiest "death".

I also agree anything over 2 hrs 9 minutes is too long for most action/adventure movies.

But at least we have the Opening... and that awesome 30 second fight on the motorcycle!

Good review though I obviously disagree about TLC being better.

I think that the prologue *was* set up to be the "great or memorable action scene" and in that it may have succeeded seeing how many people have said that that sequence alone was worth the price of admission.

I was also a little bummed that none of the three main bad guys had uniquely gruesome on-screen deaths. Maybe the bad guy from Logan should have been one of the soldiers on the plane to get impaled by a ballista at the very least. Oh well, beats getting taken about by a bunch of fat kids and some grass, lol.

I also was expecting Short Round to make an appearance but ended up not being bothered that he didn't.
