A time when the actor's age actually contributed something to his on screen credibility was Jack Palance in City Slickers at age 71. That was not an action film, but his age worked in his favor.

I believe that Charles Bronson made his last Death Wish film when he was in his seventies, but the majority of those were made when he was in his 60's.

Lee Marvin was doing stuff like Delta Force in his 60's, right up to his death.

Clint Eastwood was 62 and 63 when he made Unforgiven and In the Line of Fire and handled himself just fine in the action scenes.

In fact, think of that scene in Unforgiven where Eastwood pulls out his guns from storage and tries a little target practice on that tin can. Failing miserably in his "old age," he grabs his shotgun and blows the crap out of that can. It was a nice joke that acknowledged that he was getting somewhat long in the tooth but could still get the job done--in the end, far better than the young guy who lost his nerve. (Clint kicks butt in the climax of that movie.) I can easily imagine a scene with that tone in the new Indy that would play just as well with audiences.

And last but not least, John Wayne won an Oscar for an action movie that he made at 62. He continued making action movies until he was almost 70, and if anybody made a crack about his age, he could probably have killed them with his thumb.

(ALSO: In the future, let's all please refrain from confusing Karen Allen and Morgot Kidder. :rotfl)

Everyone needs to remember that Indy had two sides. The nerdy teacher side and the adventurous archaeologist side. (Though the nerdy side seemed to attract better looking girlies.. Margot Kidder... Blechhhhhhh :yuck)

I know you meant Karen Allen...

She knew him as Indy the Relic Hunter through his adventures with her DAD and as the nerdy Princeton Professor, besides I loved her in ROTLA, I had problems with Kate Capshaw in Temple, she was annoying to me, but she was supposed to be.

Karen wasn't a classic beauty but a pretty fresh faced independent girl next door with a personality and guts, a great gal, great femme fatale, drank them under the table, would punch out a guy in a heartbeat, up for the game and didn't take crap from anyone, which set her apart from the others and probably why Indy dug her. Her scene with Belloq in the tent was brilliant. Never had any reservations about her looks but that's just me...

and Boon and the other Professor. LOL.

yep I agree favorite, Indy girl was Marion. She was scrappy, resourceful, and could keep up with Indy unlike all the other Indy women.

If there is to ba a cameo from a previous leading lady, do you think that Spielberg will have the presence of mind to realize that his wife is the least popular of them all and not put her in?

Everyone seems to think that Shia is Indy's kid. I think it would be funny if he was Marion's kid, but not Indy's. I think that having Cate Blanchett be his daughter through Willie would make a nice twist in the movie.

I think Blanchett is too old to be Willy's daughter. Temple of Doom took place in 1935. A potential daughter in Indy IV would be just past 20 years old and Cate is pushing 40.

Shia, on the other hand, is the perfect age to play Marion's son.

I can already imagine the big scene where Shia reveals his secret (SPOILER ALERT):

"Dr. Jones, let me introduce you to my friend... Optimus Prime!!!"

INDY: "Fortune and glory, kid, fortune and glory... Do you think I'm shallow?"

SHIA: "No, Dr. Jones. There's more than meets the eye with you."

INDY: "Hmm. That was slightly awkward. It would have rolled off the tongue a little better if you had said, 'There's more to you than meets the eye.' Your way felt a little forced. If you're going to be my sidekick, I want you to be eloquent."

SHIA: "Feels like I step on fortune cookie!!"

INDY: "That's more like it."

Well, Cate looks younger than she is. Who knows where it will go? I'm looking forward to finding out when I see it!!

Goddamn Harrison is OLD! I can't get over how much he has aged. Unbelievable what 20 years will do. Stallone is 61 and looks 10 years younger but Ford is 65 and looks like he's in his 70's.

Yeah, I'd love to see Sallah back for this last Indy movie, even if it is just in a small cameo. I saw an interview with John Rhys-Davies (he did an incredible job as Gimli in the LOTR movies too I thought!) a few months ago, and he said no one had approached him about the movie. I am hoping that they have now, and got him onboard. I know Connery declined to come out of retirement to play Indy's Dad one more time. That sucks. I was really looking forward to seeing him with Indy again!
