Re: Inglourious Basterds trailer....

I don't know... I wasn't that impressed by the trailer, so if those are some of the best parts of the film I'm not sure

I usually LOVE QT. I also love True Romance to death! And of course Pulp Fiction. But Jackie Brown was not that great - by that I mean, not rising out of the pack. And I vastly preferred Planet Terror to Death Proof in the Grindhouse double feature - loved the music in Death Proof though (and the glimpses of Austin - I lived there for 8 years and it's a great little town).

So of course I will see this - just not too impressed by the trailer :duff

I agree with you mostly, though I think you should give Jackie Brown another chance.
Unlike QT's other stuff, which has his trademark pop-culture patchwork fingerprints, Jackie Brown has a more subdued persona and is a character driven story rather than action driven like every other QT film. It's leaner, more focused and less excessive than QT's flashier fare. It's his most mature film and has some of his most believable characters and best performances.

Re: Inglourious Basterds trailer....

Well, saw this earlier, it was an absolute blast! I loved it!

Re: Inglourious Basterds trailer....

Just got back from seeing it.

Meh.

Better than I feared, and some very funny bits and great camera work (the heavy references to Leone films, The Searchers and Dirty Dozen were nice) but still juvenile and the glamorizing torture and murder angle was off putting and creepy.

Ranks higher than Death Proof, but this is QT's weakest stand alone film.

Re: Inglourious Basterds trailer....

I've seen this movie twice now and I absolutely love. Definitely my favorite Tarantino flick and probably my favorite film this year (slightly edging out The Hurt Locker). Loved the dialogue, great cinematography, really strong performances, fairly funny at times, and some really intense scenes.

I wasn't bothered by the fact that the Basterds weren't really in it. I actually found there parts to be my least favorite of the film. I loved everything with Shosanna (who was no doubt the star of the film) and Landa. They were easily the 2 biggest stand out performances and, to me, the most interesting characters in the film.

This isn't the film your dad would have taken you to see. But it's the film Tarantino always wanted to make!

Just finished my 3rd screening of this glorious film. Similarities abound with Kill Bill, but that's a good thing. Different genre, but equally beautiful in its telling of the tale. I loved the references to Kill Bill. Like watching a war film from my youth, yet a little more bloody, violent and unpredictable. And classic Tarantino script and directing.

Inglourious Basterds is to be savoured like a fine wine. An excellent cast from intense Denis Menochet, alas an actor that we never see enough of. A brilliant Christoph Waltz who I now need to track down his previous work. Ditto for Mélanie Laurent. And the read-me-like-a-book Brad Pitt. All perfect in their roles. And then there is the script, wow! Ten years in the making and likely the most personal script Tarantino has yet written. It truly is classic Tarantino, something to savior and enjoy. Hence my 3rd screening :) The framing of this is a work of art. A joy for the senses.

A must for Tarantino fans. A must for WWII genre fans. And a must for those not easily repulsed by unnecessary violence, carnage and mayhem. Like me :)

Need an escape? Go see this. Inglourious Basterds is classic bone-crunching cinema at its most enjoyable.

i saw this over a week ago in the UK... how come the US is only getting it now?

It's all about scheduling and finding the right release spot way up front. US scheduling is very frantic. I saw a sneak earlier this week and did a double showing today to saviour it more.

So I immediately mailed my friends, to see if they want to go too! :D

For sure a film to see with friends that appreciate the genre and Tarantino!

I was invited to an early screening of Kill Bill way back, and got to bring 3 friends. I chose well as one was a die hard Sonny Chiba fan, another big on Gordon Liu and classic HK maritial arts. And I was a big Japanese and HK movie buff. We all left with jaws on the floor wanting more. Good times.

:lol One of my friends actually doesn't watch too much movies, although he seems to like pretty much everything he sees when he comes along. I remember last year when he came along to see The Bucket List, when the movie ended he said: "Oh, so that's Jack Nickelson."

I don't believe he was joking either :lol

So I doubt he will know Tarantino. But I'm sure he will appreciate a good WWII movie.

i for one though, loved this movie,

the very first chapter was very very tense, there are some scenes that slow down completely, but savor them... it's a brilliant movie... don't want to give too much away, but it's a very well written and at points, a sensitive piece.
