Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

So that's why they call you dirty Mexicans, because you guys have to go on the cheap for stuff like showers, because even running water is costly over there.

I keeid I keeid! Love Mexico. Been there and want to go again! The people rock and I love the coast there. Only been to the Pacific coast in Mexico.

LOL ok you are welcome! :1-1: BTW I dont get what you mean. I take a shower every saturday!!! :wink1: (just kidding.)

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

it's just such a cycle. Tease, reveal, PO, wait, unboxing. Start over again.

This is pretty much why I'm out. I've gotten over how 'cool' it looks to the point where it's just a decoration on my shelf.

I unbox, say to myself "Yeah, this is cool" put it on the shelf and then I'm on to the next one. I'm just not into it anymore. For the price they're charging, I just couldn't get the satisfaction out of it.

Something like DX Batman, the suit restricts the posing so much and because of the issues there, you just can't have any fun with it, it just stands there. All of my figures just stand there. It costs so much that I don't want to touch it out of a risk of breaking it.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

Actually, that number is the total 'Household' income per month. The average person is somewhere around $2000.

I've definitely become more selective with HT purchases, partly because they have too much stuff coming out. I've decided I only want figures I really want that are from movies I love. I passed on the Tron figures and Sweeney Todd because, although nice, I don't 'HAVE' to have them. I didn't want shelves full of 1/6 dolls to the point that they all become a blur. I'd rather have a smaller collection where each individual piece stands out.

I don't mind the price hikes, honestly. They're still the best on the market for what they do and nothing else comes close. Everything gets more expensive over time, and with the dollar's value decreasing every day, its not a shock that import toys will become more expensive.

This is why I have chosen to own only one Predator, Alien and Terminator figure. I went tangent with Sweeney Todd. But in the end it is a nice looking “Victorian” style figure. I am 100% in for Jack Sparrow and Indiana Jones. After that I sit and wait.....hopefully for a street cloth Rocky. During this time I might go back to Neca and get the Gremlins, Nightmare on Elm Street, Predators and Terminators. I don’t open my NECA I keep them MOC in my home office and store them away after a few month. That way it keeps my collector room clean and not cluttered!!!

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

Tired of collecting HT, No. Tired of the board drama associated with collecting HT, Yes. Annoying behavior can be found on both sides.

Nitpicking and item to death or photoshop corrections which really don't add anything to the figure. I understand HT misses sculpts and isn't always 100% accurate which is frustrating but the repetitious complaining grow old.

The other spectrum is equally annoying with the elitist attitude assuming they know HT corporate strategy. Better yet, dare have a difference of opinion on a figure and their drama starts.

Healthy debate is good unfortunately, comments with the best of intentions often go down hill fast when discussing HT.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

To me it's not about over or not. I was never into Hot Toys. They do make some cool stuff but that doesn't mean I have to buy every single one being pumped out into the market. I just buy what I want. I never bought the Batman Begins figure because it was fugly. Then the made a better version when they got the TDK license but that was a little too late. I bought the first 2 Jokers and was offended by the DX ver.
I skipped on the Ironmen mess since I'm not a fan but the Batman 1989 movie license really excites me.
I just get the characters I like. Robocop, didn't think twice, Dark Knight, don't care; Batman, hell ya; waiting for Batman Returns.

I think the price increases hurt the collectors who have to own everything that's released. I haven't bought an ht fig since Rambo III and Rocky III, I plan on getting the the joker, batman and the batmobile, because on didn't over buy and i've been very selective, I have a little extra cash. Like everyone else price and space to display are going to be issues, unless you have a huge room in your house, your either going to have a lot of stuff that's in the garage collecting dust or you'll have to sell off a bunch of stuff to make room for the new stuff.

I'm with you on the ht's Batman 89 being more appealing then the Batman Begins Batman, I just like the Michael Keaton costume better, and i personally like Jack's Joker 89 better then Ledgers joker.

I really hope Hot Toys does a Danny Devito Penguin fig, a lot of great accessories would come with that figure.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

I wish more people would dump Hot Toys alltogether, it'd force them to up their Quality Control.

Considering the amount of figures they pump out I'd say they do a pretty good job on QC on everything, though they seem to have trouble with the rubber figures lately. Compared to Enterbay who is really their chief competitor in the market, HT's QC is miles above them.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

Buying what I like and focusing on just 1/6 scale helps the budget. It's when you start collecting everything that looks "cool" that you'll run into money issues. It's good that we can still sell these figures for close to retail if not more on some. It's a good safety net for me in case I change my mind on a figure I've purchased and displayed.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

Well, I'm one of the first to say that HT is overpriced and overestimated!

However, if there is an area where they don't have an issue, it is QC. Now, there may be flaws, or rubber deterioration on some things, but this is something to be expected.

They can't obviously test every piece that comes out of a factory.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

I find that whenever i see a figure i really want, i always intend to buy it asap. but then something always stops me. not sure what.
That happened for Iron man Spiderman and Batman.

maybe its because their not holy grails for me like the Metal Gear series. So ill say when that line is released. maybe im not as into HT as i thought?

anyone else had this?

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

Yeah. I'm contemplating cancelling a couple of my Hot Toys POs and selling all I have. I probably bought some of them or ordered some of them just cause they looked cool, rather than me really being a big fan of the character or the property.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

I personally think the prices are way too high, but the quality is unmatched. you also have to remember that DID, DML, dragon, etc.. primarilly tap into the 1/6 collector market. HT taps into not only the 1/6 collector market, but movie memorobelia collectors, and also film buffs. The bigger the market, the more they can charge. I know collectors that have bought movie props for 5-6 k. paying $200 for a 1/6 fig is no big.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

How can you be over HT, they make the best 1/6 figures. Being pissed about their prices is a different story. There's alot of collectibles out of my price range. Its an expensive hobby.

:exactly::goodpost:, hot toys is amazing, my only concern is their figures deteriorating such as oil problems and what not.
