just cut back & live vicariously through the "show your shelves" thread. i used to get caught up in announcements, thrill of preorder, got mine posts.........shipping notices, tracking to the delivery day & get an item & stick it on a shelf and be like........:dunno.....what the ^^^^ did i buy this for.....:lol. as i've gotten more choosy about what i buy i can i enjoy what i've got with no regrets. just my 2 cents.

Hi Roy, i been feeling the same way for the past two weeks, for some reason i started to lose interest about collecting these things. I think maybe i should cash out from my collection now.

Wise old Bodie know how to stay in the game.. Ask Dave, I'm a rodent who never leaves..

I've seen many a collector caught up spiraling out of control while making decisions based on impulse..

The solution for longevity is simple, buy what you can afford, what fits into your collection and what you have space for..

Being a completist is for those who lack control. A sure recipe to fizzle out.

can't say I didnt see it coming. Ive been around for awhile and see people who amass a huge collection of stuff in a very short amount of time usually not last too long. It may be hard to accept but in a weird way, most of the fun of this hobby is the anticipation of the piece. Once you get it and set it up and live with it, the excitement fizzles. Sure it looks awesome in your display and you are proud of it, but there is no excitement and the thought of "there is $400 sitting on my shelf in the sunlight" next to countless other multi-hundred dollar pieces can overwhelm your enjoyment of it. Also, where's the fun if you have everything and don't know what more you can buy?

Like bodie said, a steady pace and not falling into the trap of getting things only because "they'll look nice displayed together" is what keeps things interesting.

I think Dave and only a few others who are on the forums actually are still going strong. most of the rest either completely got out or sold off a portion of what they initially had.

^^^ Wise words

There is a saturation point though, even with a self-proclaimed completist like myself. I didn't order the Emma PF and that sort of allowed me to cancel the Abomination. I've broken the compleist disease!

But my ardor hasn't died down, but for space reasons I just have to limit it to things are really, really want, rather than those that I think are just kinda cool (like Abomination).

Quoted for truth.

Over the past 5 months i've had alot of time to really reflect on what IS important and what is not. I have sold over $4000 of my personal collection and my question is should I just keep going?

Does anyone else here feel the same way? At one time it was fun and exciting and now its not. I suppose an individual just makes changes and may not even realize it and others make that choice. I see myself "making" those changes and not even seeing the change.

I am not in a state of confusion nor do I feel regret, in fact I feel more clear now than ever before (collecting) Not about "life" in general but maybe just a small branch of it.

I guess what i'm saying is does anyone else feel the same way and if so what do you plan on doing about it? This weekend will be the start of my change in this hobby. It was fun, this site is a blast but its time to move on I think.

Note: This is not an "Attention Whore" thread, just an honest question

If you do sell stuff off PLEASE give me 1st dibs on your Terminator 1 figures!!!!!!!

That's just life. Sometimes your interests change, sometimes you need money, whatever. I've had to massively cut down on my spending the past few months and reassess why I was running a review blog (too much time invested to do 2 reviews a week). I've still bought a statue here or there when I see an amazing deal, but that's about it.

Collectibles aren't going anywhere, they'll be around if you decide to buy more!

Every once in a while Bodie actually makes sense! Great post! I have been selling tons of my stuff and will continue. I am changing my habits. My goal is to get rid of all the toys and stuff I don't want. Then maybe once or twice a year buy a PF that strikes my fancy. My goal is to have a PF or two of every movie that I love. That's about it. No more than 10 to 15 PF's. I really don't have an interest anymore in 12inch figures. They sit on shelf and at the end of the day still look like toys. Not to mention the price is out of control.

Been there myself...ended up in selling the stuff i don`t really care much for,so right now i collect the stuff i burn for, nothing else and it has saved me alot of money.

The thing is Roy...you have just about everything there is to get from terminator, which makes this hobby less interesting for you right now as you don`t buy as much as you once did,you think your collection is just about complete.

If you have a good life and happy with what you have outside this "Nerd World":lol i don`t think you have any problem selling your collection, they are just toys...

As long as you still hang around on here Roy, do what you feel is best. Perhaps take a breather as some have suggested.

I know that I have certainly trimmed down my collection, so much so that I try to only keep as many figures as I have room to display in my one detolf. Helps keep cost down and force myself to sell when needed.

Last week I wanted to order back the Abomination PF....Then I bought a $450 True Religion pair of jeans...Wise choice by the Worm..:monkey1

Its true... Bodie does have "nuggets" of truth :lecture

I try to follow the same rationale, haven't always done the best job. But I'm not worried about selling off figures I no longer want or saying no to figures I don't need.

I think being able and willing to switch things up makes the collection more dynamic and less likely to get stale or cumbersome over time.

It's a hobby, don't let it own you. Step a way for a bit. You'll know when it is time to move on.

:lecture :lecture :lecture

Sometimes we all need to step back and take a break. I collected comics for over 20 years, I stopped for 13 years collecting.

Now I'm back to collecting only a few titles and I find that I enjoy the hobby even more now. :)

Order something you'd like then cancell it... it's therapy! ;)

Stay focused and ONLY buy what you want, example only by Terminator stuff.. nothing else.
