Is it time for change?

yeah this hobby can be draining. With so much coming out and not enough money coming in you get behind and prices go up and other things come out and it all just takes the fun out of it.

I've slowed down myself and am just working on dvds right now. I'm letting it drain me. If it's not fun then there's no point in doing it. So I'll collect as I see fit but I'm not competing with anyone or anything. I just want to have my peace of mind.

I'm sorry, but I refuse to believe you have lost the love for collecting. Sure you are selling allot, but I also see you buying just as quickly. Your collection is constantly undergoing change.
It would not hurt to just sit back and say WOW!!! This is some of the coolest ^^^^ I have ever seen. You have been buying figures since you were a kid, don't loose that passion now. I think you should stop buying preoders and just look at how cool all your figures and Life size busts are. They are fricken sweet!!!
Get off the boards if you have too, but use the hobby to relax and wind down from the pressures from everyday life.
Plus with possible Rambo PF and DX series . And new Rocky stuff, its only going to be more exciting....Just sit back and look at your collection, you will remember why you collect again, than just buy every once in a while. You will be fine ;)

I feel it too. I look at my collection and wonder if there are things I can let go of. What I did was try to just stick to one line. Which is the Buffy line. I did sway a little and got the PF Lara Croft and the 1/6 Lara also. But that's it. Everything else is Buffy. But when I look again, I see how hard I worked getting all of them and how long it took, etc. So I can't see myself letting go of the 1/6 the 1:4 or the Electric Tiki items. But I am not branching out to anything else. And maybe one day soon I'll be able to get rid of the 6" figures. Who knows...I just wanna try to...keep.it.simple.

Sounds like you and I are in the same state currently Terminator. I've been losing the passion for some time now and just really want to keep a few things I love for my theater and call it quits.

Thats where I am right now, I never intend to sell absolutely everything and take on something entirely different. I find myself more of a black and white kind of person with no gray area. I think most people including that ******* Bodie will eventually cut back and then some. :D

yeah, when you put so much effort into getting certain things and you wait and wait and wait for things, it makes it really hard to get rid of em. i believe ppl would prolly just be over it if it was so easy to aquire a lot of the things in their collection

This thread has me speechless.

I didn't know it was this complicated to just like something and buy it.

Even when you go crazy and add in not liking something and not buying it, it's still pretty uncomplicated.

I sold alot of stuff from my collection. Just can't keep up with all the stuff coming.

I severely changed my collecting habits. I did so because I wanted to put more money aside and save it and use it for other things. I now only buy that which I know I will really want. No impulse or hype buying. I've restricted my Star Wars buying to only OT and the one or two PT things that are really worth having. I dumped tons of pre-orders for things like Hot Toys John Connor and stuff I pre-ordered based off of movie hype.

So I restricted my collecting to things I know I would want to keep forever. Impulse and hype buying were my strongest weak points and I've got to rid myself of that nasty habit.

I have also restricted to the amount of money I can spend a month on collectibles in order to make myself put money aside instead of spending all extra income on junk. I have to keep telling myself it will be there next month and I'll get it then when I have a new monthly allowance.

The only time I question collecting is if I'm buying things just to be buying them and not buying things I really want. If I'm just buying and buying and not really thinking of how much I want what I'm buying, I lose passion for it. But if I stick with only what I really want and love and not pieces that are just "cool", then I'm good.

I'm a home owner as of this week, so obviously my collecting has to be more focused. I'm not quitting by any means, but not being able to buy something just because it's "cool" or hyped actually does my collecting good.

I'll use myself as an example.

I went through a few purges here and there over the years . . . mostly for the wrong reasons (i.e. got fed up with online flaming, etc.). Granted, I never lost $ when I went through purges (i.e. I did not sell for less than I paid, recouped what I put into it and then some, etc.).

I did find myself shifting the focus of what collected 1:6 wise into what really interests me (i.e. no longer actively collecting WW II, modern, law enforcement, etc.). Generally speaking . . . it's gotten more expensive over the last couple of years, but the 1:6 offerings overall improved (i.e. stuff we could have only dreamed/wished for from 1998 - 2004).

I've seen friends and folks I know online get burnt out for the right and wrong reasons. If you absolutely feel you need to change, then do it . . . however . . . don't do it as a spur of the moment thing, but seriously consider what you'll be giving up in terms of enjoyment/passion for a hobby you really enjoy.

I've gone through time when I wanted to say SCREW IT and simply be done with it for multiple reasons, but then again . . . I can't find/think of another hobby that gives as much pleasure/satisfaction as this hobby. For a while now, I've been busy with 1:1 life and work and my focus and time for 1:6 is not necessarily where I personally want it to be (i.e. accumulating stuff, figures left unopened, etc.). That's on me and I need to do something about it.

Maybe you could simply set them aside for a while and then revisit them when your focus and interest come back? I've seen others do this and it did them good.

The rest is up to you. Whatever you decide, do what you feel is in your best interests.

I buy lots of stuff and sell very little.

Thats how I roll.

Roy, you're just a ^^^^in quitter.

Sell me your Terminator figs!
