Hey guys,
Thanks. I ordered a mold kit from Micro-Mark. I would’ve picked it up on my way home from work to get started this weekend, but they’ve closed their B&M storefront! Yikes. When did that happen? Shipping added to sales tax—but at least it’ll be here Monday or Tuesday.
TOM – yes, it’ll be pre-dilled for the Buck. It would also fit on a Dragon or Hot Toys, though I think the Buck is actually the best for Gunn—fits in better with the official figures and is the tallest body out there. It’ll still be short by a couple of inches for JA Richards’ 6’3” but nothing a little body modding won’t fix if you’re type A like me.
RE. the hands – yes, they are very shiny, as is the entire body to be honest. The feet are also sculpted and large, unlike the bodies that come in the sets that are designed smaller in order to be shod. That’s where the Dragon boots are handy. Sue, this came from one of their earlier figures, the CID Wai. In the early years, Dragon’s male footwear was oversized. Their WWII dice shakers could almost be used for 1:1 dice. I have a Hot Toys True Type that I bought specifically for this first but ended up not using. I found that although the articulation is miles ahead of the Buck, it is too wide-shouldered and much too short. On top of that, the skin tone of the HT is weird—it has a grayish hue, whereas all the pictures of JA Richards I found have a with the a reddish tone. The Buck has more of that reddishness, although it is a couple shades too dark, but I think the pluses outweigh the minuses—not to mention the fact that you can still easily get the Buck from Sideshow. Anyway, the Buck is meant to be an artist’s model, after all. I am going to take some steel pad to it to knock off the shine, which I hope will have the bonus effect of lightening the tone a shade or two.
The Saturday Toys hostage set has a really nice zip sweatshirt, t-shirt, jeans that fit the Buck pretty good (although they’re light blue denim), black boots and white socks—though the shoes are a tight fit on the Buck’s sculpted feet. I really like their stuff. The business suit might find its way to my Buffy Wesley if I ever finish it.
I’ll be back when I have an update, hopefully by the end of next week.
