I dunno, maybe if it's a fun fps game? There was a lot more to Duke Nukem 3D than being a "joke/parody character".

I love how people bring up that Duke isn't relevant anymore (and that they're "more mature").

A lot of this coming from people who play games like Call of Duty, Halo or Gears of War. Testosterone filled games with "serious" muscle bound (or armor bound) heroes.

Oh! But they have SERIOUS EPIC STORIES!!!!

I play those games too, but...

What I'm saying is that DNF is on track for a release and it's no doubt going to do damn well.

Seriously, I can't believe anyone still gives a ____ about Duke Nukem. And with such passion too, especially after 15 years with no real follow-up to 3D. To clarify, I was speaking only of the character, not of the gameplay. Who knows how the gameplay will turn out. But we do know the character is basically the same idiot from back in the nineties.

Every character from the 90s is the same as they were...Mario, Sonic, Lara Croft, Mega Man...any way you slice...there hasn't been any evolution, except some really crappy games in between. Difference is Duke never got the chance to put out those subpar games along the way.

I wouldn't call the character an idiot though. He was a parody of a lot of pop culture bad *****, and is in own right became his own character.

Heck its their strippers, wise cracks, and aliens to shoot it's Duke Nukem all over again.

How DNF Was Brought Back to Life

Seriously, I can't believe anyone still gives a ____ about Duke Nukem. And with such passion too, especially after 15 years with no real follow-up to 3D.

Damn right I am.

Maybe because Duke 3D was one of my favorite games? During that time it had an impact on me so it just stuck with me. Which is why, even though with all the BS through the years, I still looked forward to this game.

I even bought 3D on XBox Live and played thorough it. Still a fun game. Has some interesting, immersive stuff that most modern games still don't bother to do.

I replay a lot of older games and I play the newer games too.

Sure Duke Nukem may be some bad-ass stereotype who blows ____ up, spits one-liners, drinks booze and gets laid by beautiful women. But that's why I like him. Because he's not just another "dark" hero. He's just someone who kicks ass and has fun. Some recent games even take certain characterisitics for their heroes.

It's like the 80's action movies a lot of people here love. Hell, even a more recent movie to a degree. The Expendables.

There are a lot of people who have been waiting for this game. Even people who have written it off are now looking forward to it. It's even gotten new fans (people who just recently played Duke 3D) over the years and it's going to get even more fans.

It's defiantly not going to live up to the unrealistic hype some people built up over the years, but that doesn't mean it won't be a good, even great game.

People said it was never going to happen, and now it is.

2011 is the year. We'll see.

Food for thought, how is this any less relevant than the Back to the future game, or hot toys making a figure from a movie more than 20 years old?
those of you who don't get it, don't get the game industry. As I've said time and time and time again, it's not JUST about dollar signs. Games are a creative outlet to some people. To us(the industry), they're art. Yes, there is money to be made as well, but that's secondary. Red the kotaku article /interview with the head of gearbox. there are people out there who after getting laid off from 3d realms, took the software home and kept working on the game on their own for no reward other than seeing the project finished.
A Game gets made because someone, somewhere, is passionate about it.

As far as sales go, Duke will sell. if for no other reason that it's now a piece of gaming history. a 12- year piece of vapor-ware that actually comes out ( if it comes out, i agree, seeing will be believing)? the novelty ALONE will help drive sales. as well as Curiosity " this game took 12 years? i wonder what it's like"

i know it's got my attention for that reason, if no other.

That's because Gearbox said 2011 the first day at PAX. The WSJ article was wrong.

Also, NECA Toys announced in Toyfare that they are doing a Duke Nukem action figure.

Duke is definite for the game release. If it does well there will be more SOURCE <source>
