Shockwave (Shock Wave=trademark issues?) will still be a cool figure, no doubt.

I don't think it'll be a Beach Head variant. If you look at Beach Head's card art he's got a pretty distinct expression:

Beach Head looks a little crazy, whereas I could see them going a bit more neutral with Shockwave (though you can't really see it in this pic):

They might want to differentiate the look of the figure a little with a new sculpt. I mean, they did it with Firefly, when they could have gotten away with using a Cobra Trooper head.

Personally I don't care if they use the same style of BDUs (why wouldn't they?) as other figures, but he'd probably have a flak vest rather than Beach Head's load bearing vest, and different accessories (I hope they go with his classic Micro Uzi w/folding stock and suppressor - you don't see enough Uzis these days...). I'm sure he'll be different enough from Beach Head to warrant a purchase.

Oh yeah, and we gotta start seeing real backpacks for these figures. I can see why they went with that style for Duke (visually, no straps like the original figure), but I don't particularly like it. It seems a bit more appropriate for Firefly, but we gotta stop there. You don't actually see these very often in the military (personally I've NEVER seen one used, but I'm sure they exist).

Two for one

Show me anywhere in the toy line or cartoon where SS didn't wear a ninja outfit. As I said, if you had a problem with the comic, then take it up with the comic. The comic portrayal of Spirit doesn't inherently make traditional Native American clothing or clothing accents "insulting". Last I checked they still have a lot of respect for their own history.

Looks like another masked joe on the way!

I bet they can crank out the masked Joes quicker than the unmasked ones; if you have a balaclava sculpt, it may be easier to just alter the eyes. They're running out of masked Joes, though.

Maybe SS will surprise us with Beach Head and give us multiple sculpts:

Wow, I really hope shockwave isn't coming for a long long while. We are only getting like one actual Joe a year. What a waste it would be if they put him into production any time soon.

Those comic packs have some of the best ARAH-style sculpts around. Of course, I still prefer the originals, but a lot of that is nostalgia. Comic pack Duke, in particular, had a much more comic and cartoon-appropriate expression while maintaining his iconic look:

They did the same for some of the greenshirts, who looked pretty nondescript in their original, 1982 incarnations:

That line also gave us Kwinn!

It looks better for sure. But if they did a cloth one then they could give you a normal headsculpt under without charging you for 2 heads.

But who is going to have any interest in a maskless Beachhead or Firefly, anyway? That's almost as silly as wanting a maskless Storm Shadow.

At the end of the day, I want what will best reflect the most recognizable, iconic version of a character. If the sculpted mask looks better, then I would prefer they include an extra head if they feel so compelled, over a cloth version.

Do you guys like the sculpted balacavas better than cloth? I'm 50/50.

It really depends on the figure.

For example . . . I doubt Sideshow could have pulled off a cloth blacava w/ visor appearance for SNAKE EYES. SNAKE EYES' head sculpt IMHO could only be pulled off as a sculpted head.

There are SO many more characters that need to be done before Shockwave, althought cool, hes on the bottom of a long list

I'm on the fence. While I really like Snake Eyes cloth mask I really don't mind the plastic ones the Troopers or SS, and I think we all know they would have butchered CC's hood had it been done in cloth.

Agreed. Shockwave and Hit n Run are probably the best Joes from that year and both make/will make for excellent 1/6ers but I think this line could do with a little more pre-86ness on the Joe front.

Either way I am VERY anxious to see what they do with Beachhead.

For some odd reason . . . I foresee collectors complaining about the camo pattern and the color of the hood/sweater . . . just for starters . . . it'll be a bigger controversy than . . . Firefly.

:D

I don't expect he'll have the berret on his shoulder and I don't expect he'll have the same rifle and mags on his vest. But I'm pretty sure he'll have the green sweater and balacava.

I've never really seen a cloth balaclava that looks good and realistic in 1:6 scale. That's the ONLY reason I prefer the sculpted ones. Plus it's annoying that Snake Eyes doesn't match the other releases. I'm seriously toying with doing KD's mod for Snake Eyes so that he at least looks consistent with the other figures. :(

Not so sure. Sideshow's really good at pulling those little nods when they do. Guess it depends on if they go the SS route with Beach and give him two heads. I could see them doing a full beret if they provide him with an unmasked head and a sculpted folded one to tuck under his palette.

We might also be getting "cold climate" Beachhead with big coat. Or maybe "tropical assault" Beachhead with shorts and a short-sleeved shirt. So, I don't know that the green sweater is a lock by any means.

If they take his mask away, then I'm just gonna stay away from any thread about him. You guys can order the exclusives with the "exclusive crossbow" or whatever until the cows come home, but I'll not have a single thing to say about it.
