I've changed my mind about KOTCS

But that jungle camp scene just wallows. Coming as it does right in the middle of the movie, it's a terrible spot for the movie to fall apart, but having watched the film several times now, it's where I lose interest every time.

Defintely a sore spot for me as well. Wayyyyyyy too long for what actually is accomplished story-wise.

I wonder what happened to Lucas' old rule about "no scene longer than two pages (two minutes of screen time)? This film could have benefitted from that old rule.

I find the sanitarium and grave yard sequence a bit tedious as well. The mystery is not compelling enough and in fact is a bit confusing... taking the skull and returning the skull and then writing it has to go back, whatever.

Have not read the other posts, don't care! just have to say this! Like the Russians as the new enemies!

I couldn't stand it when I saw it in theaters last year.

Then I decided to give it another chance on high-definition PPV, and I found myself actually enjoying it. It's become my second favorite (Raiders being the first naturally). I really enjoyed the science fiction angle and felt it really added a bizarre and mysterious edge to it.

I do still have a few problems with it, but I can overlook them for the most part now:

1) Nuking the fridge...but I can forgive it because it leads up to that beautiful iconic shot of Indy's silhouette before the mushroom cloud

2) Karen Allen still looks like she's on "happy pills" the whole time

3) Mutt's fencing sequence on the truck and subsequent vine swinging...absolutely terrible CGI

I'd say that's the weakest part of the movie for me too. Once they take the plane to Peru I think the pace gets way too slow until the Russians capture them after they retrieve the skull. I agree that the plot elements here are all a bit too confusing and overwritten. This unfortunately is where I blame Spielberg and Ford, not Lucas. They insisted that the movie be less sci-fi and have more of the old-fashioned treasure hunting in it. This segment appears to be shoehorned into the plot where it doesn't add anything just to get some of the old artifact hunting stuff into the movie. That seems obvious from the way they had to awkwardly explain that Oxley found the skull, then returned it back to the same hiding place it was in the first place. I don't think the movie arrives at one logical reason for that other than as an excuse for Indy to do this little bit of rather tepid and uninspired treasure hunting. I still simply cannot fathom why they didn't at the very least come up with some actual ****y traps for Indy and Mutt to encounter in the cave. Every single previous Indy movie has had a series of threatening and deadly ****y traps in at least one section before. This would have been the perfect spot for some of them. At least we did get the running down the wall sequence later at the temple, which is one of my favorite scenes in KOTCS.

I love the entire jungle chase sequence starting with Indy's getting out of his ropes and ending with the death of Dovchenko. I have absolutely no criticism of the special effects here. They seemed top-notch to me. I barely noticed any, except for the ants, and then only because I knew they had to be special effects. This sequence is far and away my favorite part of the movie and one of the most flat-out entertaining action sequences in the entire Indiana Jones saga. I love the way Spielberg filmed the Mutt swinging scene as a little "silent movie"-style story. The cinematography is flawlessly done in a way that makes it look so simple, yet could only be accomplished by a visual storytelling master like Spielberg. That classic style also fits in perfectly with the idea that this scene is an homage to Tarzan, a series that is one of the single most important forerunners to Star Wars and Indiana Jones and was well deserving of the recognition it got here.

I lost alot of respect for Spielberg after seeing this. The groundhog I didn't get. "Hey lets throw a ground hog in the movie". The monkeys were stupid. And the nuked fridge.

And how did they get captured. I remember a boat, then all of a sudden their tied up. I thought my disc was messed up. Went back and the same thing happened.

Its watchable but still sucks. If is was directed by someone else it would of been better.

I haven't seen it since it was in theaters last year. Maybe I'll give the Blu-Ray a rent some day.

I watched all four last week and I found myself appreciating the 50's scifi spin on it more. There are to me annoyingh things in CS as there are in TOD, and TOD has grown more over the years. We will see if CS has the "fine wine" qualities in let's say...20 years?

I read in the SW magazine that there's an "easter egg" of golden Star Wars artifacts in the treasures scenes, I never noticed. Good reason to watch again. They also noted that in SW The Clone Wars episode “The Gungan General” one of the characters has the Staff of Ra.

The Ark also makes a guest appearance in an episode being loaded into a ship.
