Season just started and already you guys are putting the final nail in the coffin. There are way too many interesting plotlines for them to even think about cancelling this show. Now if anna torv would just do the obligatory promotional bikini shot for Sports Illustrated, maybe we will increase viewership! sexist I know, but trust me it's all for the good of the show;-)

Not putting the final nail in the coffin but it was close to getting canned last season. :(

It was nail biting close! :panic:

Thankfully Fox renewed Fringe! :yess:

I know. I just remain eternally optimistic. Since i am not part of the nielsen ratings group I can't control it much.

The show is off to a fantastic start and I hope this season continues to get better and better! :yess:

But I still worry that some idiot Fox exec will try to pull the plug because he wants his brainless reality show on the air.

I dont know how I feel about this season so far. Basically they are forgetting everything that happened last season with alternate Broyles and alternate Olivia's child.

Peter never existed - so he couldn't father a child. I'm wondering about the altBroyles though - they've established that the Olivia's switched and he got in trouble for helping her (or was he killed?)

But it seems they're going to have all those loose ends come back, since they're obviously bringing Peter back.

I'm truly digging this season though.

The new alternate timeline without Peter is proving to be interesting to me!

Last night's episode was really cool and especially when Broyles commented that some people make such an impact on our lives that they leave a permanent impression on our souls.

Well if Peter never existed, then Walter would not have crossed over to get save Peter and start all this riff between the universes, and there won't be a fringe division.

From Wikipedia

Season 4 begins in an alternate timeline, one in which Peter did not survive his childhood illness in either universe, according to the Observers. Though major events in their past have still occurred to the main characters in this timeline, the exact means by which they occurred has changed without Peter's influence; Walter was released from the mental institution by Olivia, but without any point of stability, has become recluse and unwilling to leave his lab. The Observers note traces of Peter still appearing in this timeline and set out to eradicate them. Meanwhile, the Fringe division in the prime universe discover a new type of shapeshifter similar to those used by the parallel universe.

We saw the same thing happening last season. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

:lecture this.

I finally watched the first two episodes of this season. If I remember correctly, alternate Broyles was killed helping Olivia return to her world...in fact, I believe part of Broyles came over as well, and he was definitely dead? What the heck? :dunno

In the new version of the present he wasn't dead. Remember Olivia also had worked with Lincoln on the other side but no longer recognized him.

I'm still confused about the changed timeline though, is it the situation like in Buffy where the past happened the same way, but the present was changed (when they added Dawn as Buffy's sister). Or is the past actually changed like Peter actually died as a child? Since if he wasn't around, how could his actions still apply--like how he brought the two universes together and forced them to work out their problems.

Thanks for the clarification.

I have to say, the first episode of this season was a chore to get through. The last episode was a little better, but with the diminishing returns as far as viewers, I'm not sure how much longer this will last.

I really came to love Fringe during the second and third season, but after the last two weeks, I have given up and I just told my wife to let me know if they ever return to the storyline and relationships that I've invested in over the last few years. This season so far is like the flash-sideways in the final season of Lost--they hit the reset button and every bit of previous story and character development vanishes into thin air. Only in this case, it's not just short flashes, but the entire show. Fringe has become an entire series of flash-sideways, and that doesn't interest me. Fringe without the Peter/Olivia and Peter/Walter relationship is not Fringe to me, and I don't feel the need to invest my time in this season's episodes if they are going to throw all the previous seasons out the window. They are ruining what will likely be the final season of this show. I feel like they are just starting over from scratch with Lincoln replacing Peter, and that's not what I want to watch on Friday nights.

I'm sure it'll all come together. I had the WTF when 'Over There' Broyle walked out, then I remembered this is an altered timeline. That said, I hope they don't drag it out too much longer. I need more than 5 seconds at the end of the episodes to harken back to Peter being 'erased'. And it's not the same without Walter being....well Walter. But it's still early.

I was never a huge fan of the self-contained episodes anyways (which this season really has been thus far). I want my mythology damn-it!

They should bring back Charlie, if Peter is the only one not in existence. Agreed?
