Wow, can't imagine the possibilities. A Star Trek movie by Neil Blomkamp would have been something extraordinary.

Blomkamp says no to Star Trek 3 | Channel24

"I used to be a Star Trek: The Next Generation fan, like, big time. But no, I probably wouldn't do that.

I don't know if me getting involved with a franchise is the best thing for me. When studios smell franchises, they smell money. And they'll try to do what they can to the franchise to make it make the most money it can make, and a lot of those interesting ideas kind of fall by the side of the road.

The 33-year-old director - who helmed sci-fi flick District 9 - is a fan of Abrams' Star Trek and his recent sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness, but doesn't feel he would be able to make the movie he wants to make due to restrictions imposed by film studios Paramount and Skydance Productions.

Do I like Star Trek on its own without the politics of making it? Yes, absolutely. But do I think that you could make it in the way that I would want to make it? Probably not, which makes me not want to make it."

Well, the man isn't wrong.

One of the biggest problems with Trek is and has been, too many cooks in the kitchen.

I often consider that's one of the reasons TWoK was such a good movie. After the disappointment of TMP, Paramount wasn't too interested in the second movie, figuring it was probably the last one anyway, giving the creative people a bit more breathing room.

Totally agree with Blomkamp, and respect his artistic integrity. . .but I'm not sure I would want to see him doing Star Trek. It would be another story taking place in the context of poor people living in ghettos and someone trying wrongly to keep them in their place. Federation would probably end up being the bad guy.

I should have performed Khan!!!!!!

Sorry but I just had to add that...:monkey3

:peace
Are you Batmanuel, shockwave?

No just simple Shockwave? Did I do something wrong?

I was watching Bates Motel and Nestor is on the show and he could pass off as Khan well w/CGI they could make him look younger.

And it would be filmed documentary style as well.

JJ won't come back for third Trek, no way. He's probably mad at the new film's box office numbers... :rotfl

Looks like it fared about as well as the first one. But I thought it was confirmed that he would not be directing further sequels now that he took on Star Wars, but his production company would be involved or something?

Apparently he won't be directing but he's made himself open to moving to a producer role. So, yeah, he'll be involved but only so much.

The last time a big director walked away from a franchise to helm it's arch-enemy franchise we ended up with Superman Returns.

Maybe after JJ ruins Star Wars he can come back and reboot Star Trek a 3rd time.

Sure you can.

The prequels are easy to dismiss.

You think you saw *****ing about raped childhoods? Wait until they actually start messing with Harry Han Solo and Hammil Luke themselves.

The prequels ruined a chance for modern new star wars. These have a chance to ruin the original characters and original actor's images.

Anything is better then the Special Editions.

I say do whatever you please with those characters. Kill Han Solo, make Leia an intergalactic whore, turn Luke into a freaked out paranoid hermit.

As long as the story, and characters work. I have next to no attachment to the original gang any more. Rough it up. Mess it up. **** on it. As long as some basic cinematic integrity is kept.

It is my understanding that there isn't any formal talk of #3 but if there is one, JJ wants to be involved and Zach Quinto says they signed for 3 movies.

Are they rebooting SW or are they just continuing the story?

IMO, they should just do all new stories with little or no mention of the original characters. If anything, just have the droids since they can't die.

It's a continuation - Ford, Hamill and Fisher are already confirmed to be in it. Probably small roles, but in it nonetheless.

back on topic - Into Darkness is now coming to Blu/DVD on 9/10. :yess:

Thought I'd post this here:

STAR TREK 3 Is Boldly Going With New Writers | Badass Digest
The old writers are also still on-board. And a Star Wars rumor which may not be true, but still an interesting possibility.

And add this:

That Big Star Trek Into Darkness Reveal Wasn’t The Original Plan, According To The Writers

Excerpt:
...here’s where the really interesting details come in – the writers already had a story, they shoehorned Khan in. “Once we had that standalone story, we wondered: are there details from Khan’s history that fit?” Orci told Yahoo, ”If we can use the details of Khan’s backstory given our structure to make the movie more specific and more relevant, then that works.”

It totally feels like that whole thing was tacked on. So sad that they felt it was necessary (or were pressured to do it).
