The hair looks to be molded.

The outfit on the Medicom one is nice...I imagine I'll end up purchasing the Zizzle one though, when weighing the pros and cons.

Thanks Wor-Gar, didn't know that was in the works! He looks awesome although he'll be far too short for other 1/6 figures I'm sure.

And it's more likely Master Replicas would import him, as they have the Disney license and have a relationship with Medicom in that regard (and will be bringing in the new version of the Rocketeer).

Both sculpts look very good, not NECA good, but very good. I'm definitely interested in adding a Jack Sparrow to my 12 inch collection, so ...

NECA will come with a 12" version as well.. with voice ofcourse. ;)

I don't get the love the Medicom figure is getting. Sixth scale? No, not if you plan on putting him with anyone other than the other Medicom figures. They aren't the company to look to if you want to mix and match - your Sideshow figures will all TOWER over this guy, and while Depp aint big, he's not five foot tall either.

And that head sculpt - ugh! It's a terrible likeness, and if Sideshow did something like that you'd be all over them about it. This is going to be a $200 figure, so yes, the costume better be damn nice - but the sculpt better look like the actual character and not his cousin twice removed.

Medicom does fine with masked figures, but human likenesses completely evade them. Yes, the Zizzle version doesn't have as intricate of costume - but their head sculpt is far superior (and NECA's BLOWS this stuff out of the water), so I'm not sure what Medicom's excuse is.

I don't own any Medicom figures, so I've never really been able to compare the height on them. The cost is so much that the only way I would ever buy one is if they made a character I absolutely couldn't pass up, and there aren't many of those out there, especially since other companies are out there that do excellent 12 inch figures.

I don't think the likeness is terrible, but the more I look at it, the less I like it, especially when you have others to compare it to.

What he said !!! And while I understand that Neca aint some people cup of tea, here, Nobody in their right mind can say that the Neca's Jack Sparrow is not dead on !!! This is by far the best sculpt of Depp that has ever been done and I would even said, its the best human likeness I have ever seen on a figure.

I love my NECA 18 inch Jack Sparrow (it is perfect), but I don't collect any of the regular figures because I stick with 12 inch.

Johnny Depp is a little short though isn't he? In this instance, it might work in their favor.

I have to say, as the battle wages on here over NECA, Zizzle and Medicom, IMHO I would find it hard to part with $200 for this figure. Something unique from a customizer, yes. I have several. But Medicom has always been way too pricey. I think this is apparent when comparing the Luke Jedi from Sideshow versus Medicom.

I agree that Medicom isn't the best in the likeness department, although this looks like their best effort yet (the Matrix figures weren't bad either though). The 12" Neca will be all plastic - so no interest for me there. The Zizzle does seem to have a good sculpt, looks a lot like Jim Maddox's Sparrow in fact.

This statue (that started the thread) doesn't look that great though - if this is the smiling Jack that is on the NECA 18", I'm glad I got the serious one.

I got the serious Jack too. Didn't like the smiling one. I'm not interested in the statue.

I won't get the 12" Neca one either if it's all plastic, so it looks like it's going to be Zizzle's for me, which I'm fine with. I just wish someone would give me a Norrington - I can't help it, I love him.

Has anyone seen the 12" Sparrow from NECA? Not sure why it would be all plastic...the only 12" figures I can think of that NECA has done have been cloth outfits. It's not a scale they've done much with though.

Off the top of my head I remember the Crow and Vincent Price as the Raven. Don't remember any others though, and both of those were in their very early days.

so is the Medicom Sparrow up for preorder??

as for which is best i think it's that custom job i posted pages ago. i would like to know for sure if NECA's is gonna have cloth or not. don't think i'll get Zizzle. it just looks cheap to me. it's got short pants.

anyone know what happened to this statue?
