The 58-year-old actor said he felt “really, really tired” after decades of pushing his body to the limit.

Speaking in Cannes, Chan said that his latest Hollywood outing, Chinese Zodiac, would be the last time audiences see him in a leading action role.

“This is my last action film,” he said. “I tell you, I’m not young any more. I’m really, really tired.

“And the world is too violent right now. It’s a dilemma - I like action but I don’t like violence.”

Chan has been talking of retirement for the past couple of years but said today that this time he really means it.

Update!!!
False alarm, sort of. Jackie had this to say today on his facebook page:

Hello all my friends and fans,

Yesterday in my press conference in Cannes for Chinese 12 Zodiac I said that this movie was my last big action movie.

Today I was shocked when I woke up to read all the news coverage that I was retiring from doing Action movies.

I just want to let everyone know that I am not retiring from doing action movies. What I meant to say is that I need to do less of the life risking stunts on my movies. After all these years of doing so many stunts and breaking so many bones, I need to take better care of my body so I can keep working. I will continue to do international action movies.

And I will keep improving my English :)

I love all of you!

Jackie

More clarification!

"I will ask my body how long I can go. I'm not young anymore," he said, but added: "In the future I'll still do Karate Kid 2, Rush Hour 4."

So, we'll still see Hollywood stuff from him like Karate Kid or Rush Hour, but it looks like his Hong Kong-styled action flicks are over.

I'm two ways about this news. Not really interested in Karate Kid 2.

Looking forward to Chinese Zodiac! I loved the Operation Condor/Armor of God movies. Excited for the sequel. Good way to go out.

btw here's the trailer for that:

Re: Jackie Chan retires from action movies.

I haven't seen him in a movie forever. He retired, basically already.

Re: Jackie Chan retires from action movies.

He's been in dramas and mostly non-action roles for the past 4 years, and those haven't been great, so...yeah.

Re: Jackie Chan retires from action movies.

A true legend. If anyone deserves retirement it's him.
That first video is insane. He's crazy !. :lol

Re: Jackie Chan retires from action movies.

Love jackie chan. Yup true his a legend just wished he was in Expandables. His great we'll miss him.

Re: Jackie Chan retires from action movies.

I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did. I bet his whole body sounds like bubble wrap popping everytime he takes a step. I can't imagine we'll ever see another action star punish themselves like that again.

Re: Jackie Chan retires from action movies.

I'd rather see news announcements about his retirement than about his death from some stupid stunt. Good for Jackie. :clap

Re: Jackie Chan retires from action movies.

Yes. He is too old, and his son doesnt really do anything like his dad..... It's time for super star to get rest.

Re: Jackie Chan retires from action movies.

Jackie Chan had a nice ass when he was younger. Might still have. Bare butt warning!

He deserves it, definitely a legend forever.

Re: Jackie Chan retires from action movies.

The things Jackie Chan went through to entertain us makes him the second greatest actor behind Marlon Brando.

Re: Jackie Chan retires from action movies.

I think those "ouch" outtakes at the end of his flicks were always the best part. That man is the Timex of humans.

:clap

Jackie Chan has had a great run. Feel like watching Drunken Master now.
