Having one of my Bond phases (meaning it's watching as many as possible-- possibly all over the next few weeks as time allows)... Started with A View To A Kill (inspired by reading an article on Dolph Lundgren where he referenced his small part while dating Grace Jones/May Day... it's the simplest things sometimes) and now onto my favourite Moore film-- The Spy Who Loved Me (yeah, evil Jaws).... Friendly bump. Keep posting your collections/customs here.

Great Roger Moore clip/interview. I grew up with him AS Bond, but obviously once exposed to the earlier films I immediately replaced him with Connery as THE Bond. Dalton had an intensity (just the wrong time or he could have really been fantastic) and Brosnan was almost born for the role... but Moore always made it fun. It's hard watching him in A View To A Kill as he's so past his prime but in The Spy Who Loved Me he's at his absolute best. For me that movie is right there with Goldfinger, From Russia With Love, and Thunderball even with the cheesiness.

Elba is awesome but there have been rumors of the 'blackBond' since Bronson's casting.
Eddie Murphy can make Doctor Doolittle black but Bond is a whole 'nother level.

It would be god damn horrible, one. But thankfully, two, it won't ever happen.

Even this dude said he won't do it. It just won't ever happen and everyone knows it but the rumor mills keep resurfacing. But money penny and Felix both became black and M became a woman but the puck stops there.

I remember when people said that Cuba gooding jr was the next bond, but a black bond has never even screen tested.

Craig will do a couple more maybe and then the next likely candidate would be the new Superman. He screen tested for casino royale. Maybe he will be the front runner by the end of Craig's stint, it happened that way for Brosnen who tested before Dalton.

Why shouldn't Bond be black?
What is so intrinsically white about the character that a black actor couldn't personify him? I mean, I'd never given it any thought, but I just don't see any reason why it couldn't happen.

What is so intrinsically white about the character that a black actor couldn't personify him? I mean, I'd never given it any thought, but I just don't see any reason why it couldn't happen.

The character itself was a symbol of white imperial colonial England and later just the general white imperial western world. To start with, where and how he blends in and works undercover and in which parts of the world it's possible would flip dramatically. Not that that is a bad thing, it would create some new stories. Bond the movie character changes with the times so he could theoretically be anything.

But do you remember how high the backlash was because Craig was short and had blonde hair? The 'CraigisnotBond' websites and movement still exist online 5+ years later. Most people have accepted it because Daniel Craig is so good an actor.

Do you think the studio - in a Hollywood now so scared to do anything they stick to pre-existing brands (eg Transformers), sequels and reboots - is going to risk creating a backlash that big?

What about the 23 movies where he is white lol? Hair color is one thing, it's easy to change one's hair color, not so easy to change their skin color or ethnicity.

Doing something like that would be a cheap publicity stunt.

Nick Fury became black...but totally different character and could get away with it....Bond faces super/rich Super Villains that I think a black man IRL just would not fit in...many of those rich types want nothing to do with many kinds...the common ground for everyone would be money...I think for the time being it would be a tough sell unless he matched up with a certain type of villain that fits in ....Many of the older Villains would not take a Black Bond seriously and it would have been reflected by the Movie Audience...Maybe one day..who knows...Hey with whats going on Bond might be gay one day...but that would be another debate and a big one!..LOL....Bottom line it would be a tough sell and interesting experiment if they did do it...JMHO

The fact is if you change Bond from what he is suppose to be, then you might as well create a new character. If you make Bond anything other than a Womanizing British agent then you cease to have the character. It would make better sense to have Doctor Who go black than Bond.
