Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Unfortunately it cannot be done :(

The guy who sculpted it left iminime and thus left them without the rights to produce it. So they announced they'd offer a new one. That's the crap you see on the upcoming ZCWO body. Before it resurfaced there Denny showed it and announced it as an upcoming iminime preorder. But it was so poorly received and almost universally hated that they either quietly let the thread get buried or maybe even deleted it, I looked for it the other day but never found it,

Shame that original head will never be finished or offered in any way...

It will forever be our unattainable grail!

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Have to disagree with you there. I think most people, myself included, fancy ourselves experts to some degree when it comes to what makes a good sculpt and what doesn't. I pulled up this picture of the iminime sculpt that has been mentioned. It's not bad, but has it's share of issues. Skin is too heavy over the eyes and the ears aren't shaped or positioned right.

crag.jpg

Forgot to mention the other issue I see with this sculpt is the features fill up too much of the head. If this sculpt were painted the flaws would be apparent. I think collectors in general tend to obsess over objects they think they will never be able to obtain. Once it was announced that this head wouldn't be available it magically became the holy grail of Daniel Craig sculpts. To some degree Adam's was the same way. People were trying to chase that one down until they realized it was the size of a baseball. Sculptors are constantly using this tactic in the custom section. "Limited to 10", "only 4 left". I imagine if other sculptors thought having a sculpt that was close to the iminime one would generate sales they would try and copy it instead of creating thier own takes on his likeness. That should tell us something right there.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Frankly I don't care if that sculpt were being mass-produced in a factory by machine, sold for 25 cents and available at every corner store in the world. It would make its dominance in appearance and likeness over every single other sculpt of Craig no less deserving. I mean, you can even chop the ears right off and it's still better.

The bottom line is that this sculpt looks like Craig. I'm not saying it's the holy grail and I'm not saying it can't be improved upon. Daniel Craig is no harder to sculpt than any other distinctive face. If someone with the necessary talent is interested enough, they'll do it.

I tried to make a comp of all the bad guys I've done over the last few months... I'll have to pull them all out for a real group shot, but in the meantime...

I might have to make this my new sig. Sorry Jack.

Nice to see you finally got a jacket for Jaws :rock

I'm agreeing with this post and disagreeing to some degree with the post above. It's not just the fact that people can't have it as to why people feel its the best attempt it's that it's simply the best attempt we've seen so far. The fact that some people like other attempts and others dislike those attempts but prefers others dictates that there is enough margin of error universally in all the sculpts to dictate that all of them simply are off in some way, the fact that most seem to agree this is the closest attempt dictates simply that it must be closest to accurate among all of the other attempts. There was a lot more wrong with Adams sculpt besides the scale. I'm a huge fan of his work but ill go all out to say personally I feel it was a very poor likeness of Daniel Craig.

However ill reiterate again, the Medicom sculpt especially in person bears some very very strong resemblances to the iminime sculpt. If you are among the majority who think its the best attempt but disappointed it never came to be I can almost promise you that with a semi decent repaint you are gauronteed to be very deeply satisfied by the Medicom sculpt.

If I knew how to cast things I'd gladly recast this head and give them away for free minus materials and shipping, that's how strongly I believe in it. And yeah yeah I know recasting is the devil. I still don't care!

Yep, thank you again for those pictures you took for me of the jacket on your Jaws. I held out for awhile to see if a better option came up but finally ended up with the gangster jacket. It is tight but works much better than the old version I was using.

Now let's be quiet and let the Craig sculpt conversation continue. :D

I get what you are saying but i don't buy the group mentality position. I see many, many things offered on here that a group of people think is the greatest thing since sliced bread that I can't stand. It all boils down to what you like. I'm one of the people who think all recasting is the devil so I would be against recasting the Medicom. However this site is fairly liberal about what constitutes a recast and what doesn't. If someone were to fill out the roundness of his head it would probably float past most people on here without a problem. Personally I take note of people who do that kind of thing and refuse to buy from them, but thats just me.

I might be inclined to agree with this IF someone can show me some pictures were his brow looks that puffy. I went and looked at 15 to 20 pages of images of Craig and his brow does not look like that. This sculpt makes it look like he has gone 10 rounds in a boxing match and is losing badly. Plenty of talented sculptors have tried to tackle this portrait. Craig is joining Harrison Ford and William Shatner in a group of celebrities who are very difficult to capture in 3D.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

You're talking about a puffy brow on an unfinished sculpt though, his eyebrows are not even sculpted in yet. It's not really fair to scrutinize it on that respect when that area of critique is clearly unfinished. The strength in the sculpt even at a clearly unfinished level is why the majority feel disappointed that it did not get competed and offered. All subjectivity aside had it been offered it would have been the strongest effort to date despite flaws every single sculpt has flaws I have never seen one that does not.

In all fairness the discussion and point is moot anyways because none of us will ever own this sculpt anyways it really doesn't matter of its the best sculpt or the worst sculpt or a personal favorite or not.

The definite truth in what you're suggesting is that no matter how good or bad something is subjectivity will still be a factor in deciding to purchase something and there's nothing wrong with that at all.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

The Brother's one that we've been seeing is still a prototype, maybe the production one will be better!? Long shot I know, but, what else, bar the hard to attain Medi one, have we got!?

I fear Daniel Craig may not be sculpted as many times as say Bruce Willis or Tom Cruise have been. I wonder if Art Figures will ever have a stab!?

It's safe to say that, despite everyone wanting them to do one, an HT one will never happen, unless Craig does a non Bond film that they want to pick up the license for......

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Thanks for iminime information. But what about Susalas Craig? And what happends with Bbkills(i gues it's his work at the bigining in photos here)h s nose in final? In here is so much likness in may opinion. Is it photoshop or some special angle?I have bought one painted final version no neck head, but it is absolutely diferent- very thin, long nose, elongated face etc.Is possible to bay exacly that one head from photos here? And maybe even painted it could have same proportions-wide, flat nose, deep eyes etc? Please share with info, if you know.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Here all may Bondies with different Craig heads...And second Connery in Nathans jacket.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Susala was, I believe, originally going to offer casts, but, for some reason, withdrew from the 1/6 community. She has a portfolio on DeviantArt but she doesn't respond to any comments.

The first Daniel Craig head you have is the BBKill head as everyone got it, mine is exactly the same. The main problem with 3D programs like ZBrush, which has been used here, is that they have virtual cameras and the focal length has been set wrong or just left at the default setting. The ideal focal length for faces is 120mm. If the camera had been set to this then the heads might have come out better.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

There's always a group message to the guys at Maximus to see if they'll tackle a Craig. Clearly there's some demand for a new sculpt, but is it enough demand?

I have two of the Brothers figures on Pre-order, so we'll see about any sculpt improvements.

I'd love to get a jacket like that for my Jaws. Awesome work!

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Where did that tiny Craig head come from?

This one?

It's the head from that Daniel Craig action figure from The Golden Compass (Lord Asriel) and the body is a Prof X. (I believe the gun's from GI Joe's Cover Girl).

Now I just need to find an Astin Martin that size. :hi5:
