Seriously, this thread is getting really really boring, there's no reason why there should be 20 pages arguing about racism.

Actually, I find that rather representative of the movie itself -- though the preachiness wasn't about racism, it was about the nature people and the magic tree.

Although I don't seem to dislike the film quite as much as you, this is a good point. How many times did we have to be told that the HOMETREE IS SACRED!!!! I mean, once or twice seems to be enough, but I'm guessing they needed some filler dialogue. It should be a new drinking game ;) "No seriously, that tree is sacred!!! Dire consequences should you destroy it.... no really, I'm super cereal!"

If you were deeply religious and there was something very sacred to you I believe you would mention it daily/often. Especially if you lived in the woods with no TV or internetz :lol

Seriously though, yes im sure they said hometree a lot, but I think it was also in various stages of the movie to different people. Neytiri told jake about it, jake told SW character, SW character told the general why they shouldn't blow it up and why ect ect. I don't think they could really refer to it as their house on the hill or the really big stick in the woods...

If an outsider is trying to get close to a tribe, they (the tribe) might feel the need to repeat it constantly so they (the) outsider knows how truly important (sacred) it is.

Its a shame people can't just enjoy a good movie without having to dissect every little aspect about it.....

(1) I am faithful, and mention it on occasion.

(2) I can enjoy a good movie without dissecting it. This wasn't a good movie -- and I really didn't need to dissect it to get to the bad part. It was predictable and boring.

Fixed. :D Most people who saw it liked it.

1. Its tough to put it the way i mean it without possibly offending everyone that is so easily offended anymore, but I was speaking more of "non civilized tribal religion." The way old Native tribes act out religion and the way a typical Christian society operates is totally different. So you being a faithful person has nothing to do with my point. Tribes tend to take it up a few notches with sacrifices, dances ect. We just bow our heads and pray. So, when an uncivilized society finds something sacred yes I'm sure they are quite excited by it and make sure you know how sacred it is to them.

2. Well we all know what they say about opinions and I'd say at least 90% of the people disagree with you....

Fixed, IN MY OPINION. :D Most people ON THIS BOARD who saw it liked it.

I don't need my posts edited, chief (thanks anyway). It was written as intended. This was not a good movie ... it was boring and predictable.

Of the dozen-and-a-half people I know personally who saw this movie -- fully 2 of them liked it (and one of those two thought Transformers 2 was a masterpiece). The fact is, most people that don't like the movie won't participate in forum exchanges ... so forums often end up being fanboy orgies.

I have a question for you.
Seeing as Avatar is so popular with the Masses, do you think this is an Ideal franchise to bring in a new fan base for Sideshow?

Not trying to answer for her, but I believe it very well would be. Anything that gets on the scale of this movie will drive people to collectibles. It was because of Weta's LOTR line that I first found out about Sideshow and ever since I have no shelf space and my wallet is consistently lighter. I don't know if this would get to the levels of LOTR popularity and obsession, but I would say its the closest thing out since ROTK left the theatres to have such a following.

Yeah, the Weta~Sideshow LOTR collectibles are what first introduced me to the company.
Avatar definitely has the potential to bring a lot of new fans to the hobby of collecting.

On a lighter note...

What if Avatar had been released in 1979? Imagine the fun game we would be playing....

Ah, when life (and games) was simpler.... :)

I don't think the Avatar line could ever be anywhere as deep and diverse as anything LOTR; there aren't nearly enough characters (worth collecting anyway) not to mention an entire effects company sculpting the designs exclusively.

I would have loved an Atari 2600 Avatar game.... that would have been cool as hell... although $67 is a bit much. :)

I agree avatar needs another 2 movies to get alot of collectibles such as lord of the rings, but people really love the movie and hot toys and sideshow already are making the figures , i cant wait to get them.:D

I completely disagree with you about the movie. I respect and admire it because it's an unabashed piece of entertainment spectacle. It's unpretentious, it doesn't want to be anything but a huge Hollywood epic and it succeeds brilliantly.

That said, I totally agree that it's ridiculous to have to work some ridiculous "in my opinion" disclaimer into everything you write.

Check this out:

Chocolate milk is the best

1 foot equals 12 inches

One of those things is an opinion and one of those things is a fact. It doesn't matter how you state one or the other. As an adult you should be able to tell the difference.

I've seen the same thing when I've been brutally critical towards Christopher Nolan's average-at-best Batman movies.

It seems to only come from the people who feel threatened when their own opinions are challenged, as if they need to be reassured that a bold contradictory statement in an opposing opinion doesn't invalidate their own.

If it's really a problem you should probably just write "IMO" on a sticky note, place it on your monitor and draw an arrow pointing to the screen because it's your problem, the person stating their opinion shouldn't have some sort of obligation to hold your hand and spell out the difference.
