Weren't people raving about how The Dark Knight constantly switched ratios and how cool it was last year? I'm pretty sure. I also remember saying how dumb it was. LOL! But overall did I care? Nope, I just don't care. I don't even care that I don't care. And some days I even care less that I don't care even when I don't care. It's awesome. :rock

It's not about losing the black bars, its about losing parts of the image off the side of the screen. To me that is a very big deal.

Thats like buying an oil painting then cutting off the sides to fit it in a frame you already have.

Like said above, the redeming feature here is that this ratio WAS in fact shown in the theatres at IMAX. So you're not just losing off the sides but you're gaining at the top and bottom. cancels out (I guess). Although I prefer wider more cinematic ratios in general.

Thank you for posting this pic. I have tried explaining aspect ratio to people, and it can be difficult if the concept is a foreign one.

Now I can just show them this pic, which I have saved to my PC!

LOL! Honestly there is nothing missing in the 2nd pic that my eyes would even notice while watching a movie. I mean between the 3rd and the 2nd that is. To me it's major nit picking but one could expect that from this site. :lol

Put me in for one who cares about aspect ratio.

I care...

I care that I care..

My TV cares that I care...

my movies care that I care

I care...that they all care...that I care.

After hearing Cameron's POV on the 1.78:1 ratio for the Blu-Ray I feel a little better about it. I still wish they'd just include both versions.

Cameron takes on GLEN BECK

Excerpt from the link:

"Let's just call it out. Let's have a public discussion. That's what movies are supposed to do, you know, you can have a mindless entertainment film that doesn't affect anybody. I wasn't interested in that."

The Hollywood Reporter also notes that Cameron
made it very clear he intended people to come away from "Avatar" with more respect for the environment and how our actions are affecting it.

"Anybody that is a global-warming denier at this point in time has got their head so deeply up their a-- I'm not sure they could hear me," he said.

and

"I'm less interested in making money for the movie and more interested in saving the world that my children are going to inhabit. How about that? I mean look, I didn't make this movie with these strong
environmental anti-war themes in it to make friends on the right, you know.”
