I think it's a little more than that. And you know it as well.
Transformers is a popcorn movie. Clash of the Titans is a popcorn movie. And probably even Predators - a popcorn movie.
Avatar? Popcorn movie, plus the latest and greatest CGI/3D technical achievement you've ever seen to date. Just a bit more than a popcorn movie I'd have to say.

Star Wars is also a popcorn movie.

So is every single movie James Cameron ever did.

Aint NOTHING wrong with popcorn movies. TDK is also a popcorn movie. With maybe a little more substance then most. But just a tad more.

What's funny about the Oscars is that anyone that wins could easily be said to have been given a "charity" or "benefit of the doubt" bump. Seems to happen every year: Haley Berry because she's black, Crow because he didn't win the year before, etc. etc.

If Cameron had won, others would have complained the academy just wanted a director to have 2 wins :duh

Also beat Pulp Fiction... while I like Forrest Gump quite a bit; Shawshank and Pulp Fiction are far superior IMO.

Well, I don't know about that but I do think that DISTRICT 9 had much more photo-realistic FX. And the best, most photo-real blue CGI character effect last year wasn't a Na'vi, it was a superhero. While AVATAR does have some great FX, a lot of it really looks too cartoonish to me, including the Na'vi themselves.

Yeah, I honestly didn't understand the hubbub over the effects. It didn't look any better than Transformers or D9 to me.

no offense but they were some scenes where neytiri looked almost real especially in the close ups.

While watching the movie i thought the special effects were from 1997....the eyes were so fake.

then why bother posting on here if you didnt like it, you say negative crap about the movie all the time, man whats with all the people bashing the movie.

I am sorry dude, but you are dumb. He is posting that stuff to get to you and you keep falling for it. IF you would just stop responded then maybe he would stop.

I am not sure WHY you keep responding.

had to do a bit of coke to stay awake about half an hour into the movie....
