Cameron must have a deal with the devil! His top two films have grossed 4.6 billion combined! Eat your heart out Mr. Lucas and Speilberg!

Oh, I think Spielberg will rest easy with the knowledge that he makes the better movies (and a lot more of them).

The only thing these numbers really prove is that Avatardation was a worldwide pandemic. :lol

Seriously, better movies? More does not mean better. If Spielberg did Titanic he would have had Jack and Rose both be saved, sell the diamond, and have babies.

:lol You make it sounds like Cameron's movies are any edgier these days. AVATAR is as fluffy and pandering as they come. He hasn't made a film with any real balls since TRUE LIES.

And, yes, better movies. While I will always love ALIENS, THE ABYSS, and the first two TERMINATOR films Cameron has yet to make a film as good as JAWS, CE3K, RAIDERS or, yes, even SCHINDLER'S LIST or SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.

I'd throw A.I. on that list as well, but I'm assured that you don't get it and would probably write off the ending as "feel good" with "aliens". :lol

I am not defending Avatar as not fluff, I am saying that Cameron is simply a more risky filmmaker. Sure Avatar is fluff, but it is 100% Cameron-made. The story itself sounds so stupid that anyone would be an idiot to make it. However, Cameron makes films for himself only. Love him or hate him that is to be commended. Spielberg has become infused with Hollywood. He is a producer of almost every blockbuster movie to come out, including Transformers 1, 2 and 3. I think the films Spielberg makes are ridiculously safe, including Schindler's List. However, I did not see A.I. so I cannot comment on that film in particular.

Spielberg has made some very personal films for both himself and others close to him. SCHINDLER'S LIST was for his mother & Jewish family, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN was for his father and WWII veterans. He made A.I. (a very, very non-mainstream films) as a personal favor to Stanley Kubrick, and on and on.

Yes, he has made many popcorn roller coaster flicks (the INDY films, JURASSIC PARK, etc). Hell, some may say he even shepharded that genre. And, yes, he's been a Exec Producer on a lot of Hollywood junk food. But to discount him for that alone is to overlook the fact that's easily one of the most important filmmakers of modern times and has made movies that have pushed the envelope and taken chances. There was absolutely nothing "safe" about shooting SCHINDLER'S in mostly black & white, the Omaha Beach scene in SPR, or pretty much anything about A.I. I think you're just letting your dislike for his feel-good yarns overcrowd your judgement. He's a real filmmaker, not just a populist.

Look, we can agree to disagree. The first time I saw Schindler's List, it was because my gf made me since she loved the film. Forgive me but I found it to be a black and white caricature. I think Saving Private Ryan is breathtaking visual film making, I give you that. The acting first-rate, but I thought the entire film romanticized war. However, I will say that I did like many of his films, including Jaws and SPR (despite it's flaws). I find it hard to put him in the same breath as Stanley Kubrick, who to me, was the most daring and invent-ful filmmaker we have seen so far.

You really think SPR "romanticized" war?? Wow.

Yeah, I guess we should cut this debate short and just agree to disagree then.

:duff

Well we are talking about KOTSC, which was written (in part) by George Lucas and directed by Steven Spielberg, so I have good reason to lump them together. I am not a Spielberg fan, but even I understand he has done some great work.

So you a Cameron fan then? :lol

Hehe yeah I know I am in the minority. I understand that Spielberg's intent was to do the opposite, show the brutal nature of war. I found that war, as a whole, including the brotherhood of the soldiers, was romanticized. This is most apparent at the end of the film I think. But again, I actually like SPR. :duff

How was avatar pandering.

It was very "Save the world" "Humans are bad"...it wasnt as in your face as some movies had, but it was blatently there.

Yea some things were cringe worthy i must admit. But the recent crisis in the gulf is why avatar has a message we should all listen to.

You know, when I saw the first Jurassic Park movie, when they showed the dinos for the first time, I was like WOW! I was really impressed. I didn't feel the same way with Avatar. I still liked the movie, but I didn't leave the theater feeling amazed.

Im getting two more VIP Signed Cast Posters from my contact at Fox Promotions. I wont be listing them on here till I have them in hand but if interested let me know so I can gauge if I should bother or just go straight to the bay.

:goodpost: The CG still holds up in that film as some of the finest ever produced. :clap
