I'm not a super fan of the movie, nor will I buy the 8min version, but if a 30+min extended edition comes out, I'd buy. They said they had 7 or 9 hours of footage. But the Blu-ray PQ is amazing weather you like the film or not.

Are you really that surprised if a movie has that much footage? A lot of it is probably alternate takes and ____ like that. I bet comedies have a ton of unused footage.

Yea but i bet none of them were a big budget movie like this lol jk. I dont really know much about movie industry.

Well, I personally love this movie. It captured my imagination and ran with. I have never felt as emotional about any other movie as I felt with this one. I'm going to go see the extra 8 min next weekend, the will buy the special edition when it comes out at the end of the year (even though I bought the blu-ray in April).

Plus I'm excited to see more collectible statues from SC.

I don't really care about the costs, because I am very entertained by it.

I'm not Director but theres gotta be alot of extra footage weather it could be used or not. I read about the extra footage in EW and found another interview with Sam Worthing takling about the new cut.

Sam Worthington intervied about new cut
"[Cameron] hasn't told us. There's a couple of extra hunting scenes. There’s a much-speculated and blogged sex scene everyone keeps _____king harping on about. To be honest, I think everyone’s going to be disappointed that's it’s not blue porn. But there's a lot of other character parts. Giovanni [Ribisi] stuff and Stephen Lang stuff. So it’s up to Jim. I know Jim would only release it if it enhanced the story by putting it back in.
I wish we added eight hours. I think the first cut I saw was about six hours long."

And in the new EW mag (potter cover) Cameron states another extended edition will be relesed.

Yeah, footage gets left out, it could be 50 minutes, or another hour....but 6 hour first cut? He's high. Yes, unedited a film could be 7 hours long....just straight film. No cuts, no jumps, just every thing shot. But as actual edited footage? No way. That would mean the script James Cameron wrote was about 800 pages long...and if there was THAT much story cut out....bah.

Yes. No movie has THAT much extra edited footage. It would be impossible, and pointless.

I mean, you cant go out and make a 6 hour movie...that'll never be shown theatrically. So it would be a waste of the studios time and money.

Check out The Thin Red Line's wikipedia page. I never said movies had that much edited footage. I said alternate takes and such. The Thin Red Line on the other hand is a different story. Supposedly the first cut was five-six hours. Many actors were cut completely out of that film.

Sounds like Cameron has been on Pandora too long. 7 hours of extra footage is pointless like you said. How do you edit a movie from 7 hours to 2 1/2 hours? And like you said, the script would have to be huge.
