yep. As soon as I first played Halo I noticed there was alot of similar things to Aliens. The marines , ships , building and vehicle designs.
So if Avatar is ripping off Halo then its ripping off aliens more and nobody has more of a right to do that than James Cameron himself. :lol

cameron's films have been ripped off a lot. even his so-called worst film, true lies, have scenes that have been copied by the matrix, M:I 3, die hard 4, & mr. & mrs. smith. that shows that his films are much studied and imitated by the current crop of best action directors.

at 26:20 it says that avatar is "a game changer" and "dangerously close to a masterpiece".

SPREAD THE WORDS.

If you play Call of Duty 4, the first level is FULL of Alien refrences.

"Check those corners...check those corners...!"

So tonight at Thanksgiving dinner, my cousins were telling me how Avatar is a rip off from all these other sources, and named some. Some I don't remember, but I specifically recall them saying that the ships look almost identical to those in Halo or some video game like that. I don't play Halo, so I wouldn't know. They refuse to see the movie because of how much of a rip off it seemed to be.

Trust me, they'll see it when everyone else is

Part of me is very tempted to do that, but I think I'm just going to wait and enjoy the movie with as little foreknowledge as possible, like I did with Alien and Aliens when they both hit theaters.

I love looking at all the movie stills and prop photos, but I think I've seen enough video to whet my appetite for now. Won't have to wait too much longer to see the whole enchilada anyhow. :D

A matte painter from Weta said this shot is completely CGI. Even Stephen Lang inside the suit. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

Wow, I never would've thought that Stephen Lang was CGI in this shot, had you not told us. In my opinion, that all looks 100% photo-realistic. I already can't wait for the blu-ray to be released so that I can watch the commentary and hear them talk about stuff like this.

Yeah, I would not have guessed the actor was CGI - it is impressive. I am going to the Imax 3d screening - if in my area....I expect to enjoy the movie and love the Fx...

I'm torn on whether or not I should see IMAX 3D first or regular 2D screening. I don't tend to like IMAX because of the size of the screen, I actually very much prefer regular-sized screens. But I don't think the 3D will be shown on regular screens. I'm also worried about the loss of detail in 3D. I feel like that would actually make it look fake. I'm probably just jumping the gun, though.

The bigger the screen the more immersive the 3D is. Avatar day felt like you were "in" the film rather than the film popping out at you. I would say see it initially in 3D when its fresh and then maybe rewatch in 2D

I'm pretty sure you can see it in 3D on standard screens, just as I have pretty much seen all the 3D movies all year at my regular theatres.
As long as they have a 3D projector.
In Canada here, it's been about a $3 premium to get the glasses and see the 3D versions of movies.

Agreed, I was hoping for more user questions. The footage at the end is some I've seen before, and it's the only footage I've seen thus far that makes me question the CG. The wood of the tree Jake hides under looks extremely fake, as well as when the Thanator bites wood and bits of it go flying. But hopefully this just wasn't a completed clip or something.

Ok. So I'm sure everyone here knows what this movie is about. I tried to read all the pages but there's 82 pages. So if I missed where this was discussed forgive me. But way back when the first trailer came out it was suppose to be the based on the cartoon series wasn't it? I saw the monk kid Aang on top of a pillar doing all these funky aerial moves. And now it's a movie will different creatures? When did the movie change?
