I had a nice surprise today, my Brown Alien and Asian Predator showed up two days early!
Sideshow should take note, The original Scar and Celtic had issues. New improvements here are ratcheted shoulder joints, loser net jumpsuit, simpler belt assembly, better looking feet, and additional metal wires on the shoulder cannon assembly. The result is this Predator was a lot easier to assemble, it doesn't accidentally come apart as easily, looks better, and has shoulders that hold their positions with a moderate amount of weight. Hot Toys definitely tries to improve.
I'm surprised how much improvement is here, much nicer then the first two releases.
For anyone who owns both elder Predators, what's depicted on the inner box of the Sideshow special Version? I ask because sometimes Hot Toys just changes the slip cover for different variant versions, but reuses the original box art underneath (such as the Exc. Brown Alien reuses the regular release Alien box art).
It would help to figure out which of the two is the more common version.

I have both, and the only difference inside the description flaps is the pics of the SS Ex., and the Asia Ex., oh and the Collector's Edition MMS30, Collector's Edition MMS31 on the top.

I haven't put together any of my Preds yet, would you recommend using the Ancient bodies for the Celtic, and Scar Predators? I would probably play around and pose those guys more.

I own Scar, Celtic, and now an Ancient Elder. The arms on the first two didn't have ratchets so there was a smooth motion when rotating the arm up and down at the shoulder. Mine was bad on Scar, I had to send him back for a replacement because his right arm came off. Both Scar and Celtic have difficulties holding their arms at or above their shoulders.
Just remember, switching of the bodies back with the original heads isn't very likely, they're very difficult to get on and off.
Also, the paint between the two releases is very different (the new ones are more glossy), so you can't really switch the heads which means that Scar's trademark forehead scar will be missing if you use any Elder head.
The bodysuit netting is what restricts the movement of the first two the most. This new one's suit is much looser so you can more easily pose the figure.

damn ed very very nice job. simple pose yet has a lot of presence! you make me want one even more, i may have to settle for the sideshow one.

It sounds like both have their own box art.
I'd really wish Sideshow would release the edition size numbers on these two.

heehee, thanks, nash i almost got special ed pred by mistake insteaqd of the jap version ( which is the one i want)..was on my way out of the building before the retailer called me on my cell and asked that i gotta switch my special ed piece with the aisia piece cos he didn't have enough of the sideshow exclusive..whew!!!tok abt luck!!

i, too would like to know the prod numbers on these fellas!!:rotfl

I don't think they did the Certificates with the AvP exclusives like they did with Superman Returns figures and Batman Begins. I didn't get any in mine either.

I just watched AVP and noticed Hot Toys screwed up on the Asian excl. Predator. The Asian Pred. is the one that detonates the nuke and destroys the temple, but the figure has no gauntlet detonator. I like the way two gauntlet forearm blades look on the figure (without the extra long blades), but the fact that the Asian Pred nukes the temple makes me want a detonator gauntlet even more.

Funny I noticed that too yesterday. Was watching AVP while I was putting my Celtic Pred together.:rock

Also, the SSC Ex. version in the movie also has a gauntlet detonator. Hopefully, I can find a detonator on the bay, as parts show up from time to time.
