I'm usually a lurker here but I gotta say ...this movie ROCKED. I'm convinced the crtitics are watching a completely different movie as i've only read bad things about it.

Also, I got my Mondo poster and after being blown away I think I'll be taking it in to the framing place. *high five*

On the local news today the critic said he couldn't even give this movie one star. He went on to say how he's sick of all the sci fi movies, etc. Why are guys like him even movie critics if he's judging the movie by the genre?

I thought this was miles above recent Disney live action adventures like Prince of Persia or Sorcerer's Apprentice. It's not a perfect film but it was worth seeing on the big screen.

I just came back from seeing this and I loved it!

I really hope this movie will get the visitors it deserves, even though the marketing and advertising was pretty worthless.
I'll definitely be recommending this movie to people who care to listen! If the advertising fails, it has to be compensated by word of mouth!

I loved the story, characters, actors, action, music... pretty much everything about it! I thought it was an original watch even though the story is like 100 years old and parts of it have been copied by other sci-fi franchises.

I really hope this will be succesful! :rock :rock :rock

Saw the movie without reading any reviews which I usually do, I have to say I was so suprised with how good this movie was, very entertainting and the dog was awesome reminded me of my dad's french bulldog.

Saw it today and thought it was excellent. I really hope Disney hasn't knee-capped it with the poor marketing campaign. It deserved better.

I would have to say it's the most brutal Disney film ever made. I can only assume they got away with it because the blood isn't red.

^ All 3 POTC movies are insanely violent.

Bloody stabbing, shooting women in the face, eyes getting ripped out, not to mention the Kraken kills.

And the child getting hung by the neck in the first 5 minutes of AWE.

I'll be seeing this movie tomorrow. :yess:

My sister saw it today and said it was fantastic! And she doesn't like Sci-fi! :D

Just got back from a matinee viewing of John Carter. A big fan of the Burroughs novels, I thought the movie was a solid adventure with the right mix of action, humor, and character development. For a movie to resonate with me, I have to buy into and invest in the fate of the characters. If the romance between John and Dejah rang hollow, the movie would be a no win for me. Happily, Stanton hit the mark and I cared about what happened to these two through the course of the film. I don't think it'll make enough to warrant a sequel, but I am hoping I am wrong. One thing that I would have done differently is use a brighter color palette for Barsoom. A little to drab for my tastes....some primary blues, reds, and greens would have given it a more visual pop.

Saw this tonight and I really liked it. It's not a perfect movie but it's very solid from start to finish. I would suggest seeing this and I will be buying this on Blu-Ray.

Its pretty awesome that alot of the comments are positive for the movie! It did rock!!!

The only thing is i think the mainstream media critics are going to flop it and there probly wont be a sequel, im hope im wrong tho! Id love to see more adventures of Carter. Its funny how many other genre movies there comparing it to when the orginal character and books were made 100 years ago :dunno

The IMAX art print is pretty cool, it looks like a production artwork piece and has the symbol, it be cool if movies did this more often.

Its def the most brutal disney film yet.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Interesting to see how films like Star Wars LoTR(the books), and many many others were influenced by this story. I am sad that since it's probably not going to do very well, we won't get a sequel.

You're hearing the wrong things then. This movie rocks! :rock :rock :rock

Nope. :( :monkey4

Put in spoilers so you don't have to see the negativity. :D

It was boring as all ____. :(

Didn't like it at all. It was just so dull. So very, very dull. It wasn't a bad movie....but it just never did anything impressive.

Let's look at Brad Bird. HE DID IMPRESSIVE ____ in Mission Impossible 4. A franchise that, if it didn't have him, it would've been the same old crap. But he upped his showmanship. He did real stunts, he used IMAX, he used very little CGI. The story wasn't amazing, but he made it work.

This movie? What did it do? Look, I can deal with bull____ if you give me something I haven't seen before. It could be an action sequence, or maybe a plot point, or something. Hell, Avatar had the effects, and the 3D.

This movie really looked bland. Mars was so dull. So very, very dull. The ships were interesting, but that was it. Aliens were lame. There was very little reason for me to care for any of these characters. I don't remember ANY character development, or any real actual character.

John: Im angry because my wife died, but i'll let that go because I want to get busy with this hot martian.

Princess: Im a princess who doesn't want to save my people cuz, I don't wanna merry a gross man!

Bad guy: I'm mean and I hate things. I want to kill the princess to shoot my moon laser...I don't know what the point was.

Alien 1: I'm an alien.

Alien 2: Im the alien's daughter.

Alien 3: Who gives a ____.

Yeah. Didn't care for this one at all. It just wasn't impressive. Or interesting. I mean, I expected the story to be boring, because it's been done, every movie has stolen it. But I just wish the execution was interesting.

Also, ____ that Arena scene. I hated it because it brought back horrible memories of Attack of the Bull____. It looked JUST LIKE IT. The scene played out JUST LIKE IT TOO!

So yeah. Basiclly, I didn't enjoy it. But I am glad I didn't see it in 3D. :lecture

The critics seem to be split down the middle, but the comments from the public seem to be about 2/3 to 3/4 positive. Even in this thread, there are probably four or five people who enjoyed it for every one or two who didn't. I've seen more comments from people who would give it a thumbs up than thumbs down. The majority of what I'm hearing (from people who've actually seen it) has been positive. No movie is going to please everybody, and this doesn't seem destined to be an all-time classic--but I think it was worth seeing.
