let's stir things up a little, shall we: we won't go to war with N. Korea until we get some dim witted, war mongering, bully republican in office again looking for non-existant weapons of mass destruction.:chase

Because we went to war against them during the time you're referring to? :dunno

"You're doing a heck of a job Brownie!"

"It's a slam dunk!!!!"

Ahhh those were the good old times. :)

I hope this won't escalate things any further. The last thing the US needs is to be involved in another worthless conflict with a country that's of no consequence to us.

The U.S. can't afford any more wars.

This crsap between north and south goes on all the time.

When I was a kid, the first gulf war seemed like a really big deal and I was scared. I mean, it was war, and war is scary. It only lasted a couple months, but it was a really big deal.

Today, it looks like my son, who was born in 2002, will not get to enjoy a period of peace during his childhood, if ever. It really makes me sick when I think of it that way.

War should not be "the norm" for any child, and we're raising a generation of kids who think war is just something that is always going on.

What can we do? We can turn a blind eye and let a country of lunatics obtain nuclear weapons, and while the world would be a much more dangerous place, the people crying about America "policing" the world would be appeased. Our second option is possibly another war. A 3rd frickin' war while our military is stretched physically and spent mentally. All this while our economy is is still in the ____ter.

Things are not looking good. :(

A country with nuclear capabilities and missiles capable of reaching US land is of no consequence to us?:slap

It could be worse. My wife's generation is the only South Korean generation that has NOT had a war during their lifetime for well over 200 years.

Most of our military is stationed there already. What's one more aircraft carrier?

How is less than 30K most of our military?

Nah that's not important. We should hand some nukes out for fun. What is important though are the pat downs happening in an airport near you. :yess::rotfl

The most frightening prospect, to me, is not war in itself, but "loose nukes" in the hands of non-state entities. Even North Korea, as insane as they are, have been able to reign it in a bit with regard to making threats with their nuclear capabilities. Why? Because they want to continue to exist. But what is to restrain someone who is willing to commit suicide for his belief, who doesn't care about any group or state, but only in an extremist belief, and who cannot be deterred? And who may actually commit the act with the hope that reprisals will come? And what is to stop North Korea from handing that technology over for the right price (if Pakistan hasn't already, or if one of those groups hasn't collected one of the missing nukes from the Soviet Union's old stockpile)? That is frightening ____.

As for sending an aircraft carrier, it is a more overt signal of strength and commitment than having some soldiers hanging out in a base or walking along the border.

To 316's point, based on what I have read, it is unlikely that North Korea has a delivery system capable of carrying the nukes they have developed to the mainland U.S. Possibly Hawaii. Certainly, they haven't performed enough tests to have demonstrated a reliable ability to do this.

Russia wanting to go to war with the U.S. is absolutely laughable.

Lol...I know right. My brother just got home from being in Korea for 3 years, and he's pissed because his new headquarters unit is on standby to go back.

North Korea might not seem like they're of any consequence in the size of things, but they do have the power do deal out some substantial damage before the end of a fight. But is it worth risking casualties of any amount??

I say we just send in Jack Bauer and a squad of ninjas to take out the high command.

If North Korea launches a nuke towards Hawaii, they'll glow in the dark for the next thousand years.

A major international flashpoint and somehow the USA is involved..................no change there then.

Whilst North Korea's actions are cause for concern there's still no need for the USA to stick their nose into someone else's affairs yet again as it'll inevitably make the situation worse especially if China decide to back the North.
