Is very different than this one:

SSC is all about paying tribute to the first, and GG the second.

You missed the point then. I'm not buying Sideshow's figures because they're excellent representations of the 1:1 characters. I'm buying them because of my love for Star Wars and their appeal to the inner child that grew up watching the OT and playing with the Kenner toys.

Nice to see you're getting into Star Wars now EdwardNyg... waitaminute...

like nam said, i'd like to get the ones that fit into my character specific collections but i don't know if i'd go further than that.

I got one and I think its awesome. Boba Fett was my favorite figure when I was little.

Here's my "needs list"

ANH
Princess Leia
(I know, easy to find... but never seem to find a complete one :lol)

ESB
R2 D2 w/sensorscope

ROTJ
Sy Snootles and the Max Rebo Band

POTF
EV-9D9
Han Solo (In Carbonite Chamber)
Imperial Gunner
Luke Skywalker (Imperial Stormtrooper Outfit)
R2 D2 (pop-up lightsaber)
Yak Face

Sadly, mostly POTF... so figuring I can complete the set with around $400ish if I get some decent deals.

Hmm... Yeah, many of those are on the more obscure side for sure. But I definitely think that is doable without breaking the bank. Are you opposed to using repro items (vinyl capes, weapons, etc) to complete some of the figures? If not it'd be even easier (and cheaper).

I'll keep my eyes open. I tend to come across vintage collections for sale all the time. And, Dragon*Con is this weekend. A few dealers there will have some vintage SW stuff without the inflated Celebration prices.

Not necessarily. For many the Kenner figures were a completely separate spin-off phenomenon in and of themselves.

I think that's true. If you read the vintage toy forums over on Rebelscum, it's amazing how many of the collectors don't really even seem to be Star Wars fans per se. They are fans of the toys that they loved as kids, not fans of the movies. That's why they spend thousands for the original prototypes, Kenner production materials, or whatever. For those kinds of collectors, I can see these being very attractive, because they are based on the things that they care most about -- the toys themselves.

I liked my Star Wars toys as well as the next kid, but I guess I don't have quite the same level of emotional attachment to them. I agree that these are too expensive, and somehow I got a little turned off when I found out that they're hollow, since it spoils the illusion that these are exact copies of the originals. I may pick up one or two of them at some point, but you'd have to be super hardcore to collect all of them. Of course I have huge doubts that they'll get anywhere near releasing the entire Kenner line.

When you say they're hollow, do you mean the torso section of the bodies? Or the heads, arms, & legs? Because having just checked my 3 3/4 vintage Boba Fett, Stormtrooper, Tusken Raider, and Hoth Rebel Trooper, the bodies are supposed to be hollow...
