My Hammond collection Rex showed up a day early. Have yet had the chance to open it but it looks pretty good. Those good in hand online pics that y’all are seeing are pretty accurate.

I’ll do a side by side photo comparison shortly with my nanmu JP1 Rex.

Out now and going to try to pick up a baryonyx at my local shop and then order a set of three raptors.

I am still on the fence, but it seems too toyish for me...
I'm waiting for a 93 JP line with better sculpts, cleaner articulations and, even more important, better paint.
To be frank, I don't see that much of differences between all those Mattel lines.
Yup, cute black boxes for the Hammond collection, but that's about it.

I get what you mean, but I don't think these mass produced retail toys are ever gonna get much better. I'd love to have some big articulated Nanmu quality dinos, but I doubt it'll ever happen with a company like Mattel.

Hammond Collection T-Rex next to the Nanmu T-Rex and JP1 baby Rex.

For a mass market Mattel toy, this Hammond Collection T-Rex is really impressive. The size is perfect. The eyes are really well done. The iris is embedded underneath the glass/plastic such that it “follows” you as you move. Quite clever.

The only nitpick is the feet are a little on the large side. So it does give the T-Rex a more stylised look which for me is totally fine. But it’s a necessary measure to balance the figure. And the figure really holds is balance very nicely. The only way they probably could have done without the larger feet is if they were to put magnets into it so that it balances and holds its pose on a metal base. Not at this price point.

For me, this is the best mass market JP1 T-Rex since the red rex.

This is from Edel Collectibles, an Instagram (and former Etsy) account that charges several hundred dollars for custom JP-style dinosaur figures in 1/35 and 1/20. Unfortunately the paint chips, the plastic is brittle, and being unlicensed, the process of ordering doesn't seem very secure.

Some folks think Edel might even be run by Galileo Hernandez, an extremely talented sculptor who wound up scamming a lot of people back in the day.

Yes, Edel’s figures look great, but the risks and costs of them are far too high. I’ve heard multiple nightmare stories of people ordering from them and not hearing from them for weeks /months after sending them money.

This Hammond Rex is honestly probably the best Rex figure we are going to get. No, it’s not perfect, but no figure is. For the retail price, I’m extremely happy with this figure, the only thing holding it back for me from being perfect is the oversized feet, but it comes with the territory for these Mattel theropods.

I only hope that if Mattel releases a Spinosaurus in the Hammond line, they start from scratch on the sculpt. The mainline Spino has to be the most inaccurate, poorly proportioned theropod they've done.

Oh absolutely haha you’re talking about the extreme chomping one or something similar to that? My friend has one and yes that thing is pretty rough. If it weren’t for the Hammond collection, I wouldn’t be interested in the Mattel figures whatsoever. I’ve seen a few decent figures in the legacy collection, none that I liked enough to want to get them though. I do have interest in a few of the human figures they’ve released, especially Roland Tembo, but they’re always packaged in with dinosaurs ir vehicles that I don’t want, so for now I’m just waiting to see if they pop up again rereleased as Hammond figures down the line.

Yeah, I had the EC Spino a few years ago. Also had their EC Buck Rex from TLW, but the more I looked at them the more disappointed I became. Really hoping those two creatures get some love in the next couple years. Hammond Collection, Iron Studios, Prime 1, anything as long as it's bigger than 1/35 and doesn't look completely wrong.

I know I’m just a stranger on the internet, but if you’re really on the fence about this Hammond Rex, if you have the chance to get it in store at retail price, I highly recommend it. I’m someone that’s very picky about figures, but I’m staring at mine right now and I’m very impressed and thrilled with it. I hope we do eventually get a Lost World Buck version as well, but I wouldn’t let this version pass by in the meantime. This is the best dinosaur Mattel has ever made, probably the best mass produced dinosaur since the 1997 Thrasher T Rex.

I’ve had this for a couple of hours and it’s already my favorite Jurassic park figure I’ve ever owned. The articulation is so fun to work with.

Give it time, so many Mattel Jurassic products have been a nightmare to find at first and then become overstocked and discounted even. The Brachiosaurus was very hard to find at first and eventually could be easily found anywhere. The Rex and Jungle Explorer set has been discounted as much as 50%, my Target shelves are full of them.

Yes, that’s the only reason I even own the Explorer set. I went into target last week looking for other things and saw an end cap full of them finally marked down to $25. I wanted the explorer but didn’t care for the whole set at $50, half price finally made it worth it to me!
