The problem is that there is no physical activity involved in sitting around all day playing games on a tablet. I would want my kids outside running around and playing games. Not sitting on the couch playing "fruit ninja". I don't wan them associating physical activity with work and sloth with fun.
This is the reason my parents made me play outside atleast 1 hour a day (weather permitting) and wouldn't buy me a game system until I was 12.

That has nothing to do with toys, but new liberal parents being too protective of their children (not letting them play outside), and this is OT... what you're talking about is not necessarily toy based, but having kids be creative and sociable. We didn't play with our toys outside, we just rode our bikes and ran around making forts or throwing snowballs in the Winter months. Or we would play with sports equipment, and play a game of catch or play a game of street hockey. We also did the whole make-belief thing. I seldom see kids playing outside vs. yesteryear. It's sad.
