Just a question because I have always been curious to know, are all of these sculpters named Korean? I know Yulli is but are all of them?

Yes i suspect your right

I think as far as sculpting, all the people presented here and even Yulli's work and people like Trev and Tim Miller all have amazing sculpt talent, the big difference I find is the level of paint quality. If you had all the top folks sculpt the same portrait, there'd be variation but I think the quality would be pretty equal all in all. The key is having an equal paint job to match the sculpt. JC Hong's work at HT really accentuates great sculpt work, and some of these custom guys like Kojun are good too and it helps, but it has no bearing on their sculpting quality, I've seen great paint save bad sculpts and bad paint kill great sculpts. Sculpting quality has to be measured in raw sculpts.

ah, so this finally answers my question from another thread--- "weapon x" is kojun. sorry, a little late to the party, but what the heck...

and guys, who CARES who's the "best" sculptor? yulli, trevor grove, miller, park, kojun, etc. the fact is, as someone (think it's either wookster or michael crawford) said, we are in the golden age of 1/6 collectibles.

we the fans are benefiting from this amazing burst of talent, and i for one, could not be happier! :chew

:banana

As glad as I am we have work from them, it almost seems a waste of such talent, you're capable of that and it's primary use is collectible toys. Maybe there's not much else out there for heavy ammounts of sculpting, just seems like these guys could be producing museum stuff or higher profile pieces, certainly worthy of it.

Think about it. Where is the real money and job security? Free lance work as an artist or a stable career as an in-house sculptor for a major toy company (also factor in that asia is where almost all the money is in the production of plastic goods).

Besides that, I think the culture in Asia regards these pieces very differently than most of us do in the West. Over there they are celebrities and they really are regarded as artists whereas most of us (who have not been enlightened :lol) regard them merely as toy makers.

I guess, I mean I see this stuff is works of art, that's why I buy them, as much as owning something, I just like to appreciate the craftsmanship behind them.

It just seems like if you made a museum of collectibles, only folks like us would ever check out the work in there, but say Trev or Yulli did like some kinda of 1:1 JFK bust or something that ended up in a big art museum, they're far more likely to have a broader group see their talent. It's always nice to have your gifts noticed by a broader group.
