My Imax theater had technical issues delaying the start of the movie by 15 minutes so the entire audience received free Imax passes so in essence I watched this movie for free.

My review:

This movie sucked.

I never thought I could be so bored watching a movie about King Kong and Skull Island, but I was.

Very unimaginative creature designs for the primary villain creature.

Movie was good looking, woopeedoo.

Not even Brie's breasts could save this movie and that's saying alot.

Godzilla 2014 might've had less action but it was a movie with more substance.

Those skull crawlers belong on a syfy channel movie, who came up with them, elementary school kids?

I would've preferred giant T-Rex's lol.

PJ Skull Island was much more frightening than this plain island.

Hell original King Kong movie had a more frightening Skull Island.....and that was clay....wut.

Kong looked cool but seriously it's 2017 cgi so if they couldn't even get that right then why be in the movie studio business to begin with.

At this point it's like saying "Hey I flew in a passenger airplane and they didn't crash!"

No kidding, they're not supposed to.

I'm calling it right now.

Godzilla and Kong will need to unite to take on other boring creatures escaping from inner earth.

I was sooooo bored watching his battle with that dumb looking creature.

If he can't even take on that stupid thing how the hell will he survive against Godzilla who took on two Muto's at once!

Nothing in this movie matched Godzilla's airport entrance and atomic breath scenes from Godzilla 2014, real shame they ran out of money and had to cut away so much in G14 or else that movie would've been really good.

As it is G14 is still not great but at least he had better opponents and i'm not even that much of a fan of those MUTO's but I still believed that they could be formidable threats, much more so than these silly skull crawlers.

Kong walking out to face the camera at the end was them trying to remind me that I was watching a Kong movie, or what? :lol

Oh well the spider leg and tail deaths were cool but that was it.

Oh and Kong looked much more real than G14 cgi skin when walking, the hair probably helps in that regard.

King Yawn.

:lol :lol :lol

Yup. :lol

My son was bored, how can that be in a movie about a giant monkey.

I loved the helicopter pilot's line though, is that a monkey lol

Oh one more thing, man that camera had a super loud flash lol.

Saw it yesterday. It was either this or 'Before I Fall' and that was a firm no from me.

Like Jay says, it was boring. Even the Kong scenes were meh. I got up for beverage refill twice. I never do that during flicks.

I did laugh at the suicide grenade moment though. :lol

Second best scene was the post credits.

Third best was the credits.

Warner Bros and Legendary's Kong: Skull Island delivered a strong opening weekend performance, topping the weekend box office and becoming the third film in as many weeks to outperform expectations.

With an estimated $61 million, WB and Legendary's Kong: Skull Island finished atop the weekend box office, delivering $15,865 per theater, from 3,846 locations. This tops San Andreas, the closest film we used for comparison in our weekend preview, which opened with $54.5 million. This is, however, well behind the $93.1 million Godzilla opened with in 2014 before going on to gross $200.7 million domestically. Question is, while the opening may be a bit lighter, can Skull Island improve on Godzilla's relatively tame, 2.15x multiplier?

Opening weekend audiences gave Skull Island a "B+" CinemaScore, matching the score for Godzilla. Of that audience, they were 56% male vs. 44% female, of which 18% were under the age of 18 and 52% were under the age of 35. Audience members under the age of 25 gave the film an "A" CinemaScore. Looking ahead, a domestic performance anywhere from $160-170 million seems reasonable.

While Skull Island may have fallen a bit short of Godzilla domestically, it is outperforming the radioactive lizard in some international markets where it debuted to an estimated $81.6 million in 65 territories for a $142.6 million worldwide debut. International highlights include an estimated $7.6 million opening in the UK (17% ahead of Godzilla); $7.3 million opening in Korea (90% ahead of Godzilla); $6 million in Russia (16% over Godzilla); $5.6 million in Mexico (on par with Godzilla); $4 million in France; $3.6 million in Taiwan; $3.5 million in Australia and $3 million in Germany. Upcoming releases include a March 24 opening in China and March 25 opening in Japan, both of which will be very interesting.

By comparison, Godzilla opened in 64 markets in 2014 with $103.4 million before going on to gross $328.4 million internationally and $529 million worldwide. WB and Legendary have a series of films planned for this franchise with Godzilla 2 slated for 2019 and a Godzilla vs. Kong monster mash-up in 2020, so it goes without saying that Skull Island's continued performance worldwide will be looked at closely.

Why Jye... Have we ever disagreed this much on a film... Don't get me wrong I am not going to waste my breath defending this film as it is just a pop corn flick. Sorry you found no enjoyment out of it. Perhaps you will on your 3rd or 4th view :lol

I don't know, maybe it's that time of the month.

Kong looked and sounded great but he needed really good opponents, Mace Windu and silly lizard were not it.

Those soldiers meant nothing to me lol.

When they were sad that one of their own died I wasn't sad.

My review:

This movie sucked.

Man so harsh :lol

I never thought I could be so bored watching a movie about King Kong and Skull Island, but I was.

I was never board... But it's not like I found it super exciting either... I really found it to be eye candy and my feeling of excitement was equal to that of G14

Very unimaginative creature designs for the primary villain creature.

I was never in love with the design.. I really think some back legs would have helped... I did like the larger one at the end better.

Movie was good looking, woopeedoo.

:lol Yeah. If I disliked it as much as you I would feel the same way.

Not even Brie's breasts could save this movie and that's saying alot.

They were nice :lol

Godzilla 2014 might've had less action but it was a movie with more substance.

Here is were I guess I fail to see the substance in G14.... It tried to have more substance but everyone was so damn boring the substance it attempted was just boring filler.. Give me some Damn monsters!!!

Those skull crawlers belong on a syfy channel movie, who came up with them, elementary school kids?

Come on.... Sci Fi channel??? Well maybe :lol

I would've preferred giant T-Rex's lol.

I thought T-Rex's would have helped the film... BUT we are going to be seeing that sort of throw down if we get a GvK film

PJ Skull Island was much more frightening than this plain island.

Eh.. About the same IMO... You need to watch the extended cut of PJ's Kong to get that feeling... Otherwise it's just Bronto stampedes and giant grasshoppers for the search crew. Ann had some T-rex issues. Extended cut gave us a triceratops type beast and water monster that helped add to the danger of the island.

Hell original King Kong movie had a more frightening Skull Island.....and that was clay....wut.

Neither film matched the look of menace as the original Kong film did.

Kong looked cool but seriously it's 2017 cgi so if they couldn't even get that right then why be in the movie studio business to begin with.

Now you are just refusing to just give the film credit :lol

I'm calling it right now.

Godzilla and Kong will need to unite to take on other boring creatures escaping from inner earth.

Hey.. I have been saying that.. First hour will be a GvK movie and then hopefully King Ghidorah will show up and they both will have to take him on... I would not mind a full GvK film but both are good guys...

Garth screwed that one up by not giving us the trailer to G14... A mean Bad ass Godzilla fighting this Kong would have been perfect.

I was sooooo bored watching his battle with that dumb looking creature.

Other then some fire breathing in G14... I really did not find this any better or worse... Except that I could see the damn battle :lol

If he can't even take on that stupid thing how the hell will he survive against Godzilla who took on two Muto's at once!

They stated that Kong was not yet at full size...

Nothing in this movie matched Godzilla's airport entrance and atomic breath scenes from Godzilla 2014, real shame they ran out of money and had to cut away so much in G14 or else that movie would've been really good.

I loved the airport entrance (foot coming down) and the Fire moments were great... But I did think the Kong vs Choppers moment was just as good if not better... If you could not enjoy that sequence then I am afraid that your inner child might be dead Jye :lol

As it is G14 is still not great but at least he had better opponents and i'm not even that much of a fan of those MUTO's but I still believed that they could be formidable threats, much more so than these silly skull crawlers.

Meh.. I hate the Mutos... They were OK... Got to disagree about which one seemed worse... Mutos were big bugs with no teeth... These creatures were fast two legged dragons... BUT... Neither were that great though...

Kong walking out to face the camera at the end was them trying to remind me that I was watching a Kong movie, or what? :lol

No worse then crowed cheering for Godzilla for some reason....

This felt more like a "Kong" film then G14 felt like a "Godzilla" film.. That one was a MUTO film.

Oh well the spider leg and tail deaths were cool but that was it.

At least you liked something :lol

Oh and Kong looked much more real than G14 cgi skin when walking, the hair probably helps in that regard.

Yeah.. but it's also been three years and CGI just keeps getting better.

King Yawn.

:lol

PJ Kong > This

Yeah I came down on PJ's kong but it has the better story... But I can't forgive Bronto Stampede, Ann surviving with out a single injury, Vine swinging bug killer, etc... This movie took it's Kong a little more seriously IMO. But I can see why many would like PJ's Kong better..

Godzilla 2014 > This

Can't agree here. Other then the 5 min of Godzilla we get at the end this film IS a deliberate yawn fest... Perhaps is JC Reilly was running around I would have been able to enjoy that.. But following Kick ass around was just awful to endure and I like the actor. But watching him and his families story in this film is painful. Especially on repeat viewings.

Godzilla was the more serious film.. But it was also much less fun IMO.

Kong Skull Island > Jurassic World lol

Sure :lol

But I don't hate JW... It's not JP or JP2 but I thought it was fine.

I guess I am just a sucker for giant monster movies. :)

That sucks you did not enjoy it jye.. We usually agree on most films or at least can see where the other is coming from. I can say that I did not love the film and was slightly disappointed by the lack of an interesting story... But I thought the monster stuff was just fine and was good enough entertainment. Oh and I was fully invested in JC Reilly's characters story and was really routing for him to get off the island....

I am sure repeat viewings will bring this film down a notch for me just like PJ's Kong and GE Godzilla... Both of those fell hard the more I watched them... But G14 has been the biggest disappointment of the three.. But I am a Godzilla fan and the trailers made the film look so epic... I am bitter still about that. one..

Cloverfield is still the best Giant Monster movie :)

Have you ever been sad about the "faceless" victims in films like this?? I mean I did not shed any tears in PJ Kong or G14... though Cranston's wife's death was emotionally great and made his character interesting.. Probably why GE decided to kill him off.. No room for interesting characters in that film :lol

I liked Sam Jackson as the Ahab of the story. I was not expecting that in the film... Skull crushers were fine IMO but I get the complaints :)

Still better then MUTOs though :lol

Yup should of put gorosaurus in this movie. I mean come on now. Missed opportunity

I'm starting to think Jye is my Alt account :lol

I definitely agree with everything Jye said outside of it being boring. I thought the movie was so ridiculous is kept me entertained. I also agree the lizard things were pretty generic bad guys for Kong to fight and their design was bland.

Honestly I would have preferred if the main villain was that giant octopus Kong ate, that thing looked scary.

I think where this movie failed was at not giving a worthy opponent to Kong.

Oh and btw Kong held Brie's character just like in PJ Kong, just not with extreme human tossing.

True, not caring about the soldiers is definately a minor issue.

........8.5/10 then Jye?

If my name was Snikt. :lol

Yes yes yes!

They should've expanded upon the giant octo or just come up with something more intimidating looking than those dumb lizard things.

I would've done Kong's evil orange brother!!!!!! :lol

Or a giant robot. :lol

The spider was cool, all 60 seconds of it lol.

You know what it is though Dark if you go you still might fight some redeeming qualities because giant monkey is giant monkey and that might be enough for some.

It wasn't a big must see film, I expected it to be what most are describing it as. I'll check it out but no urgency.....

Yeah.. But it was not for as Long.. And since this Kong was so much bigger its like protecting a fly in the palm of your hand and like I said, it was much more brief.. In PJ's Kong he held her for so long in his hand and feet and tossed and shook her so much her neck should have broke :lol.. It was about as bad as surviving the Dino stampede. It was like Jackson was channeling his inner Roland Emmerich :lol
