Nice review. Regarding the base, I think an argument can be made that it is meant to depict (if anything) the forest scene where he freezes Rey as she is shooting at him. The base appears to have quite a bit of green on it, as well as a broken tree branch, which would be strange inclusions if it was meant to depict the opening scene on Jakku.

Here is the scene I am referring to:

I think you're spot on.

Interesting read, thanks for posting. By the way, I read it all the way through so I'll be expecting that hug. :wink1:

I really think it's about time we heard from SS on these price increases, especially as it relates to this piece. It's poor form that the prices are going up so rapidly without any reasoning being presented. I'm not looking for something to argue with SS or anyone else about, I just want to hear their side of the story.

I think Sideshow have had their heads turned by what other companies charging and getting away with. XM, IS, P1, etc. This is bad for the collectors sadly.

But lets face it, the prices keep rising, people keep complaining and then the prices rise some more. Ad infinitum or until the straw that breaks the camels back?

You're probably right. Thanks for reading!

Haha! :1-1::1-1:

I had the craziest dream last night that this PF had gone up for sale at $570...

I still can't believe it. This is the only statue I want short term, but I am in no rush at all to buy it. I just don't see how this can command this kind of price point? Just how?

And increased shipping to boot? These things have always been expensive, we all know this. But I've always managed to scrimp and save here and there to treat myself to the statues I really like every now and then. I haven't always been able to have everything I want and that's perfectly fine. They are a luxury ultimately but there has to be a line which this has leaped across for me. I've never once before worried I might actually be pushed out of the hobby I love until yesterday. Bad times, I love Sideshow but this is madness, I just hope it doesn't set a new precedent....

Well last I saw import taxes are going up and just everything is going up. Maybe because of the lower edition size that the price is higher due to production qty price breaks?

I really don't know. These are all guesses and shots in the dark. I know there was more complexity going on in the Boba Fett PF and cost less, but maybe they knew demand would be high for this, so they just priced it assuming people will pay it.

The sting was less for me after having a lot of SS reward points to decrease it to $450, but I hear you on the price. It is a lot for one character. They must know he's very popular and they probably won't be doing another after this one.

The value might shoot up on this too over the course of the next 2 films and this piece being long gone by then.

The sandtrooper went up two weeks ago with a much lower ES, bigger size and more complexity, it's $150 less. Your second assumption might be closer, it is this price because it is assumed it can be. And if people are buying it, that assumption might even be somewhat true. I honestly can't see these going up in value now we're starting off at this rice point. Especially once you've factored in sellers fees and postage etc. I've always bought to keep anyway so this isn't the issue for me. The fact this is so crazily priced to begin with is my only problem with this otherwise nice statue (well that and an underwhelming EX item and base). I want one, but I know if I buy one this will be the price that sticks for future PFs.

All of that said, I love Kylo but opinion is split on him, he certainly doesn't hold a candle to Vader in a popularity sense and this is $70 more than the recent Vader PF which is much larger and more complex!? It's a mind boggler for sure.

Probably like with the Vader PF when he was first announced, there will be enough complaining from fans and not enough pre-orders made for Kylo that Sideshow will take him back and say they are going to add lights to the saber and base but need Disney approval before it can happen.

Wow, I can't even appreciate the pictures of the piece with the price glaring at me. The wife would kill me. This is why I am phasing out collecting 1/4 and going more 1/6, even though 1/6 are steadily going up too. I think within 5 years I'll be out of the hobby altogether. I remember paying 325 for Temple of Doom Indy a few years ago and still is one of my best pieces. I remember breaking the 400, 450, 475 and just barely (with shipping) the $500 price points thinking I was crazy to spend it on a single statue. And this one is a simple, basic one, no intricate giant base. I'll just enjoy my 1/6 Ren and pass easily...

I ended up pre-ordering on the 4th. The price sure took me by surprise but I knew that I needed a Kylo Ren statue after my first viewing of Episode VII.

Same. I may end up cancelling, but the lure of double reward points was too tempting. I just wish it was...more than what it is currently.

Me too. Looking back I have missed out on too many PF's and won't this time around (still need Luke ROTJ PF. My Grail)
