it never works like that. the edition number also has nothing to do with when the statue was made.

Why? Do you think they finish one statue fully and then start on the next in order? They have people painting specific parts over and over, they don't necessarily go together in any real order. They just all end up finished eventually and this is when they are numbered as they are boxed up. This is why there is never a visible difference in quality between the beginning and end of a run. Batches/waves being an exception of course.
