I heard an opinion that an evil scientist from Monarch should exhume Cranston's character and create a giant Gargantuan Frankenstein with him, a big Cranston running around! :lol

Its funny that we all refer to Cranston's character as Cranston. :lol

I can see Biojex already buying the ticket. :lol

I never got the impression Watanabe knew too much. His theories seemed more like just that: theories. Every time he spoke, the way he delivered his lines (or my being used to the superstitious Japanese scientist cliché) made me automatically preface all of his lines with "I believe."
So when he gave his spiel on nature, I perceived it as "[I believe] nature has an order." :dunno He spoke not with 100% scientific certainty, but with a personal conviction that many characters in the Godzilla series have exhibited.

Off-topic, but if you guys want to talk about characters that actually knew way too much, Royce in Predators is a much better example. When he stated the situation, it didn't sound remotely like a guess. Not even extensive mercenary experience could explain his knowledge and somehow, despite his being on an alien planet, he was dead-on every time.

This film has been likened to the Batman Begins of a Godzilla series. That movie focused more on Bruce Wayne than Batman, and then the Dark Knight went the other way and focused more on Batman then Bruce.

I think this movie's purpose was to establish monster movies and Godzilla as something that could be taken seriously and not be campy or have characters you spend the whole time wanting to die.

I'm sure a sequel will open more to the monsters now that this has been established. Again, looking at Batman Begins vs Dark Knight, the action and intensity just ramped up by leaps from the first to the 2nd.

I feel like Godzilla will be seen as good right now by itself, but if it ends up a chapter in a trilogy, if it all works, it'll be seen better for serving it's piece of the whole.

The thing is that there is plenty of monster stuff in the film, it's just hardly any of it is Godzilla.

We had the Muto breakout scene

the Muto in the forest

followed by the Muto at the airport

then we have godzillas arrival

Muto at Vegas

muto on the bridge

muto stealing the nuke

Godzillas arrival in San Fran

godzilla and male muto second encounter

then the final battle.

There's plenty of monster stuff there, it's just that less than half the monster stuff is Godzilla. And my problem with the cut at the airport scene, is that you spent the last 15 minutes building up this tension, dread, and over all chaos that's about to ensue, and when things are about to get serious and the world realizes that it will never be the same, we cut to a kid watching them on tv and comparing them to dinosaurs like it's funny, it completely undermines everything you've built up to until that point and that's what's frustrating. You could have cut to another part of Hawaii, shown the battle from a soldiers perspective on the ground, but that cut and scene undermines everything you've built up to until that point and all the tension is pretty much lost.

Now I still like the film, it's just the lack of Godzilla and that specific cut don't go so well with me. Also making ATJ take his journey alone was also kind of boring to watch, would have been much better had his journey home been about reconnecting with his dad instead of tagging along not really doing much of anything.

Predators is rubbish though. Some aspects were good but overall the film's one big mess and Rodriguez should never be allowed near a Predator film again.

I enjoyed its focus on characters and the whole Bad Blood thing. It'd be cool if they explored that further, but preferably under better direction. By that I don't mean that RR is an incapable director; more that the film's ideas weren't as concrete, as confident, as realized as they could have been. Kind of like Prometheus.

The new Godzilla had that issue too, but I give it a pass because:
A) it wasn't nearly as bad for me, still worked well and I could tell they knew what they were going for.
B) it's Godzilla; the bar was never set very high to begin with. :lol

Whew!!!
It was a Kaiju-filled weekend for me!!!
First, I saw Godzilla 2014 on LieMax Friday, then again on 2D standard screen on Saturday.
I then hosted a 12.5 hour Gojirathon at my place with 8 friends, we started at 5:00 pm and ended at 5:30 am!!
We watched: King Kong vs. Godzilla, Invasion of Astro-Monster, Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, Godzilla vs. Biollante, Godzilla vs. King Gidorah and ended with Godzilla, Mothra and King Gidorah: Giant Monsters All-out Attack!
On Sunday 5 friends and me had a field-trip to Irvine to watch Godzilla 2014 on an actual IMAX!! It was amazing!!!
Then on our way back one of my friends said he hadn't watched Pacific Rim, so we came back to my place to watch that one!
Late last night I started watching Godzilla vs. Megaguirus, but I started dozing off, so just went to sleep...

I am not going to repeat what has been said about the movie... it was missing some stuff, for sure, but overall, it had a ****ing awesome time watching it in theaters!!
The final fight alone is worth the price of admission!!
Loved it!!

I'm starting to like the idea that this Godzilla wanted nothing to do with us puny annoying humans. :lol

Someone said that he was just a weary Charlie Brown like monster with forward slumped shoulders who just wanted to get to his mission.

The way he just walked thru the bridge with that annoyed look just to get away from the annoying military who were just wasting his time. :lol

Here is my list:

1. Godzilla tied with Cloverfield, comes down to if i'm in a mood to get dizzy and nauseous or not while watching a movie.
2. PR
3. Monsters
4. Mist
5, Super 8

Ok ok, fine, if I could only pick one movie for 1st place, then it would go to Godzilla.

Why?

Nothing, and I mean nothing in Cloverfield can match these scenes:

Airport Godzilla reveal
Godzila ready for battle roar in the dust and asian hanging lanterns
First atomic breath build up
Tail Strike
Atomic breath finishing move

I love how he just KO'd at the end for a wee nap. Then got up and swam away. Big G don't give no ****s.

Yup, he was obviously affected by that nuclear explosion.

Then he woke up, ignored the humans, went for a swim. :lol

Next movie he will be kidnapped by aliens and brain washed, watch out humans! :lol

Godzilla and mist would be my bottom two, even tough I think Mist is the better film that gut punch ending is almost to much for me. Other than that Mist is pretty freaking awesome. My favorite Thomas Jane movie by far, it's just that ending man, that ending lol

Did this shot end up in the movie?
