I don't see how this movie can't have an extended cut, Olsen's character was cut to shreds.

Then again so was Cranston's. :lol

Guess what though, no extended cut will all of a sudden eliminate all those battle editing cuts (airport and San Fran) that people are complaining about.

But they could add more fighting and still leave those artist suspense building editing decisions intact.

This shot, maybe tasteless isn't the word, but I feel like the American flag doesn't feel like a natural element in the shot but something forced in, I don't like moments like that.

I never noticed the flag before. I would have never known if you never brought it up. But I'm not one to really pay attention to the side details so much. I do notice it in the Transformers 4 trailer behind walburg in the barn but that's because Bay has a light behind it and it's almost impossible not to see.

The Scene in Cloverfield when the Tanks show up and we get our first glimps at the monsters face is one of the all time great moments in Giant Monster movie history.... That was the scene that more then anything in the new Godzilla film captured what a Godzilla film should feel like IMO... Those tanks start firing.. that foot comes down... Monster shrieks... Hud is screaming for his life... Just great stuff.

Having said that.... Godzilla had some great moments.... But Cloverfield had the tone and was the overall better film.... It kills me to say that as a Godzilla fan.

Speaking of Being a Godzilla fan... I find myself reading negative reviews and I want to come to the films defence because it's Godzilla but then I realize I agree with half of what is said :(

Cloverfield to me was a FAR better film with much more intense suspense and greater sheer terror...far better directed and acted

Yea the idea they seemed like they were trying to convey was that Cranston got so caught up in his misery it killed him, when he still had family all along. Where as Ford is then in the same position again but rather then seek revenge, just wants to get back to his family. It was weakly written but even weaker because of Ford's acting abilities and almost no pre-existing relationship that we could really care about with Olson.

You have Cranston survive, you have him coming to terms with the answers he wanted and also realizing that this is now affecting millions the same way it affected him, and have him overcoming it and it'd be better. You could have even rolled with the War of the Worlds plot where Cranston just wants Ford to abandon the military duties and come home and be family again and it still would have played better. We'd have gotten a character with a full arc, who gets to overcome his demons and get answers and also redemption in being right all along. Instead there are no strong characters at all.

I see no defense of the hackneyed "love story/family" plot (lol) and awful wooden acting...talk about interest -dampening effects on the audience. Sure Godzilla was a cameo part and the effects awesome, but 75% of the film is centered around the most boring bunch of actors ..I'm shocked to say this but alot of SyFy movies(as awful as they are) characters and motivations are more entertaining and interesting than this mess.

Hahahaha, Cloverfield better than this movie??? :lol
That barf-inducing POS pales in comparison to Godzilla... How anyone can find that crap even remotely watchable is mind-boggling!

Blair Witch Project on a grander scale. Except not as cool as that sounds.

Actually that doesn't sound cool at all.

Even though I do agree, these films are far different. It's the same with Pacific Rim and Godzlla, such different movies. There's two elements that work against Cloverfield, the camera, and Hud. I don't mind the camera, it never bothered me, and I love Hud, I thought he was hilarious. But these arguments can be made against Cloverfield such as the characters can be argued in Godzilla, it's just down to a matter of taste.

I'm actually surprised no one's brought up King Kong in all of this. Am I the only one that absolutely loves PJ's King Kong? I preferred it to Godzilla, I just connect much more with the characters and action on screen. But it is nice to live in a day and age where we have BOTH films made with modern technology. What other giant monster movies are out there that could be worth a look being remade today?

Cloverfield was cool. King kong was decent (I hate jack black and Adrian Brody/Naomi watts didnt do much for me). I think the Muto scenes were sweet though they were cooler than the cloverfield monster imo and of course the Godzilla parts owned. As a monster film I think Godzilla has it. Best monster film ive seen in a theater ever

But the other films werent quite as epic or had even more annoying casts.

Far from done but I'm still working on it, hoping to finish before the baby cuz I doubt I'll have time when he's here.

You have time to work on that [admittedly awesome] piece of art, but you can't sneak out for a couple hours and see the movie?

I saw the film last night and enjoyed it. I haven't read any of this thread so I don't know what's being commented on but two things really bugged me; he has no feet. How the hell does anything walk with no feet? I knew of the leg stumps with all of the toys being released but it never occurred to me until I was watching the film. How does he walk on two legs without feet and extended toes to balance himself. I'm stumped!

And the ending with the nuke being 5 min from detonating still on the boat in the bay was ridiculous. Those waters are powerful there in the bay and there is no way 5 min would give you enough time to drive a boat out of those churning waters and detonate the warhead safely. This wasn't a speed boat hydroplaning on a calm lake for crying out loud. It amazes me the ****** writing on films like this where they hook you in and then do something completely ridiculous and implausible; see Captain America jumping out of a building and landing on his feet on concrete. LOL Yeah, I know it's a movie and it's monsters and stuff but seriously, WTF??

When they could airlift Brody to a helicopter, they could easily airlift the bomb on a VTOL craft and zoom off as far as possible you know. in 5 mins an aeroplane covers quite a lot of distance

Did anyone else think that Muto's golden brown wings had that rubbery sheen look from Ghidorah's wing.

Imagine if Ghidorah in this version is a 3 headed Muto. :lol
