Just saw this. Very disappointed. This movie was supposed to be amazing...what happened?
I'm not even sure what exactly was wrong with it yet, I would need to see it a few more times to analyze it.
One thing I thought was odd was how little Godzilla was in this Godzilla movie. This isn't a complaint about the lack of screen time, but that he never really felt like Godzilla. He just felt like another random monster with a grudge against the
real main character monsters of the film, the M.U.T.O.'S. This should have been called "M.U.T.O.
and also Godzilla".
I felt that the score, tone and acting were all contradictory of each other. I really liked the score, I thought it was well-composed, but it just sounded so weird and out of place in many scenes. I couldn't tell if the tone of the movie was supposed to be serious, horror, adventure, fun monster mayhem or apocalyptic. It was just all over the place. The acting was also very melodramatic IMO.
The atomic breath did nothing for me. It barely even harmed the M.U.T.O.'S until the end when he blasts it down the female M.U.T.O.'S throat (oh that sounded so dirty).
The one scene where I felt excited to see Godzilla, which is one of two scenes that really stood out to me and I enjoyed the most, is his first reveal in Honolulu. When you see the planes exploding on each other at the airport, then you see those giant hippo/hedgehog feet stomp down...then the camera slowly panning up, then the famous Godzilla roar... That was perfection. That scene alone would make me proud to own the Sideshow Maquette.
The halo jump was the other scene I really enjoyed. Loved the music used there, same from the trailer.
