Just saw this. Very disappointed. This movie was supposed to be amazing...what happened? :dunno

I'm not even sure what exactly was wrong with it yet, I would need to see it a few more times to analyze it.
One thing I thought was odd was how little Godzilla was in this Godzilla movie. This isn't a complaint about the lack of screen time, but that he never really felt like Godzilla. He just felt like another random monster with a grudge against the real main character monsters of the film, the M.U.T.O.'S. This should have been called "M.U.T.O. and also Godzilla".

I felt that the score, tone and acting were all contradictory of each other. I really liked the score, I thought it was well-composed, but it just sounded so weird and out of place in many scenes. I couldn't tell if the tone of the movie was supposed to be serious, horror, adventure, fun monster mayhem or apocalyptic. It was just all over the place. The acting was also very melodramatic IMO.

The atomic breath did nothing for me. It barely even harmed the M.U.T.O.'S until the end when he blasts it down the female M.U.T.O.'S throat (oh that sounded so dirty).

The one scene where I felt excited to see Godzilla, which is one of two scenes that really stood out to me and I enjoyed the most, is his first reveal in Honolulu. When you see the planes exploding on each other at the airport, then you see those giant hippo/hedgehog feet stomp down...then the camera slowly panning up, then the famous Godzilla roar... That was perfection. That scene alone would make me proud to own the Sideshow Maquette.

The halo jump was the other scene I really enjoyed. Loved the music used there, same from the trailer.

Man, I can't think of any movie I hate that I would purchase a collectible from, especially a 1,000 one!

I'm guessing. :lol
How about $2,000?

I didn't hate this movie though. It was just very underwhelming.

AVP:R Wolf LSF springs to mind. Everyone hates the movie but will happily shell out for the Wolf. :D

because of the amazing design. Same goes for the AVP preds.

kind of like how Alien 3 was not as good but everyone loves the dog Alien

Well after seeing it the second time it has become clear to me that Gareth Edwards is very good at something, having very tiny people in the foreground and huge monsters in the background.

Things like acting, pacing, plot development, scene blocking or editing? Not so much.
:lol

And whoever it was that pointed out Ken Watanabe pulls exactly the same expression for the entire movie. Thank you. You put the final nail in the coffin.

And my final gripe.. Considering how little creature feature action we actually get to see in the movie, I was amazed to feel bored by both creatures by the time the credits rolled.

The atomic breath is the highlight of the movie for me.
The only highlight now. I probably shouldn't watch it again. :lol

Well I can't really argue and defend the film..... But I did enjoy it much more the second time.... Or I should say I enjoyed the monster parts much more the second time.. The Human part of the story has fast forward written all over it on Blu ray.

Well Godzilla officially made it's budget back domestically. $160,584,332

That is good... Don't know if he will go much above 200 million. Which again leaves questions for the sequel getting made. I know if I was in charge I would be nervous about a sequel... I mean they already had the monster fights in this one so where would the other one go to make people want to go see another Godzilla film.... Hope they come up with a great idea that makes an easy green light.

I know this movie is doing well when international numbers are included as well as the future home video sales.... I just think a sequel that is fresh will be hard to pull off IMO.... For the average movie going audience that is.... Personally they could make a Godzilla film that is a remake of Godzilla's Revenge and I would still go :)

I feel like the movie would've benefited a lot from more scenes like those.

PR might even get a sequel and that only broke even.

Godzilla was enough of a success that a sequel was already announced.

Doesn't matter if Godzilla is good or bad, just up the action and good to go.

Pacific Rim's sequel is being rushed into production right now because of the success of Godzilla!

Saw this again yesterday, I like it even more now, I wasable to enjoy the godzilla scenes more, guess since I knew they were coming. Will be buying the BD.
