glad that you enjoyed it more upon 2nd viewing.
i also watched the film again recently and found that the experience evened out for me. the human characters still weren't horrible as far as i'm concerned. sympathies to those who felt this way. i've never disagreed that they're a little lacking, especially david strathairn's admiral and most of the military characters. godzilla vs MUTOs fight wasn't quite as exhilarating this time but that's purely a function of losing the surprise element of the first viewing. i don't know why some people are complaining about the darkness making the battles hard to see. they were perfectly clear to me both times (imax 3D and normal 2D). i still grinned like a goofy kid at the end when godzilla woke up and did his walk of pride back to the ocean.
for anyone still saying he "tiptoed gently" in the cities, please go watch it again. he f##ks up human civilization royally in his first appearance -- lots of people died in the tsunami caused by him. also considerable damage to the city during the battle with the MUTOs. and that final scene in particular, you can clearly see at the bottom of the screen where the highway and trail of cars once were had been been reduced to a big long stain caused by his tail/feet. i found that hilarious because everyone in the movie was
cheering the "king of monsters: savior or our city" and he just casually stomps on us on his way home.
