This will probably be true. However, if you put their film budgets into the mix, G98 only made 6 million over its budget (domestically) 136 to 130 mil. So far, G14 is at 175 and counting compared to its 160 mil budget. With added foreign theaters thrown into the mix, G14 will be the better success story overall. At least, I hope it is enough for the announced sequels to proceed forward.

China and Japan will help a lot. Godzilla it's big in those markets.

Opening dates:

China-13 June
Japan- 25 July

Even though I've seen the movie a couple of times now, it feels like it still hasn't come out.
That I've just seen the trailers for a really great Godzilla movie.

When I see that pic above or your sig, I get all excited about the movie, then I remember that I saw it already. Kind of.
:lol

Finally saw this tonight.

Without reading any other comments here are my initial thoughts.

It had some truly awesome moments. The Golden Gate Bridge scene, the parachuting, Godzilla breathing fire into the one creature's mouth, and that last great shot of him stepping out into the sun before heading for the ocean.

I guess I was still hoping for something more. I wished they'd tried to make it more terrifying like Spielberg's War of the Worlds or Cloverfield. By telling the story primarily from the point of view of the military or those connected to the military it felt more like a Pacific Rim or Transformers film. Better than Transformers obviously, I'd probably say I enjoyed it more than Pacific Rim as well I just wish it didn't mimic their style so closely.

I was hoping to see street level terror from the civilian point of view. I'm guessing with the size of the budget the studio probably just wanted to make it more family friendly.

Making him the "good guy" was an awesome twist that I never saw coming, even if I'd probably rather see Godzilla vs. people. I had to chuckle thinking about the movie and that we live in an age where God-freaking-zilla is a bigger hero and more appreciated for his actions than Superman. :lol

Not even Superman got labeled "King of the Superheros" on TV. :lol

I know! :lol

I did like the grey look of the final battle with all the smoke and ash in the air. Reminded me of Gojira's black and white roots. :) I need to see it again with adjusted expectations, I think I was just expecting a different take but can learn to really appreciate this one.

Was the 98 version the only one that made him a "bad guy"? I've been watching some of the older Godzilla films and he seems to always be portrayed as the good guy.

I guess Superman should have killed more people.
