That's exactly how I feel. I don't quite understand how everyone is gushing over the Legolas Maquette, I still don't see Orlando Bloom in it. :dunno

The sauntering pose of Arwen looks a bit too comic-book to me. So does the Legolas one, come to think of it. The Strider one is the only one so far where I'd be tempted to replace my SSW Strider with it. And I'd be first in line for a Pippin Fellowship statue. And any others that Weta has not produced. Otherwise, this line doesn't offer anything that Weta hasn't already done.

And for Woodsy to keep gushing about this line and FrodoEyes makes a comment on how Woodsy has close ties to Sideshow, what's up with that?

"will be the greatest LOTR line ever produced"? Based on what criteria? For breadth, it'll take Sideshow at least TEN years to match the Weta line. I seriously doubt that will last that long.

Other than that, if there are any gaps that this line will fill, count me in. Otherwise: bo-ring.

As far as concerning the good guys, this line is miles ahead of what WETA has ever done. WETA's bad guys are phenomenal, but the good guys are just silly imo.

None of them have a good likeness.

The new maquette line has great likenesses, very nice poses, great bases and as far as we can see nice detail ...

OK, after posting above and seeing only now the unpainted close-ups, I can see the detail that Trevor put in.

That being said, the "comic-book" feel has become stronger for me and I can say now why: the way his cloak is animated is just physically wrong. It's exaggerated. Alex Ross knows what he's doing.

I have no interest in LOTR "Unleashed-Light".

Couldn't agree more with Vince. :lecture
The Weta bad guys are phenomenal, the good ones not so much...with the new maquette line we have finally 1/6 character representations that are actually looking like the actors. :hi5:

In those production pics, the bow is completely different. Size, shape, and angle. What if the bow is the switch out, rather than the blades?

Still, amazing work, and an affirmation to stay on board.

And my humble opinion, from one not having the older Weta statues...

Not boring at all! In fact, exciting. Idealized, not overdone, classic.

Sideshow 1/6 'good guys' tally so far: 3 guys and a gal.

Weta 1/6 statue line: 53 good and bad (I'm counting Legimarod as two for this purpose).

So how can one make such a statement that "this line is miles ahead of what Weta has ever done"?? Let's see the maquette line reach some variety before making such sweeping statements.

The 4 statues offered so far for example don't hold a candle to: Ringwraith on Steed. Gandalf on Shadowfax. Balrog of Moria. Cave Troll. Moria Orc Archer. Watcher in Water. You know what? I'll stop here.

Legolas And Gimli on Arod. Gandalf on Shadowfax. Galadhrim Archer. Gimli. Elrond. Sam and Bill. Gandalf the Grey. Silly?? Do you own any of these pieces? (I made sure to only list the good guys and the ones that I felt have good likeness)

And as far as DETAIL goes, Weta line was very detailed. I will have to agree that likenesses are often not there with Weta but I have to say, when Sideshow picked up the license back in 2006 and so many on this board started chattering excitedly how Sideshow was gonna blow Weta out of the water with great likenesses, I was excited. Only to see that, hah, Sideshow doesn't convince with actors' likenesses all the time either!

Well, I didn't mean the statues in themselves were boring. I meant for someone who already has these characters in 1/6 statue form, this offers little. And the fact that this line of 1/6 statues from Weta was created 5-9 years ago and seeing it rehashed... :gah:

I like the Strider one. The others? Don't convince me to replace my Wetas. I like that the SS Arwen is in another outfit but the sauntering pose ruins it for me. The Legolas maquette, I find the cloak movement exaggerated and 'comic-booky'. Gandalf TG? I prefer the Weta one.

It simply boggles my mind how anyone could call this line boring, but to each his own I guess. :lol Personally, I'll take 1/6 scale movie-related statues that actually look like the actors portraying the roles, and which feature alternate display options [excl's], and intricate, elegant bases [that beautifully compliment each individual character], over statues that don't look anything like the characters, don't have alternate display options, and feature generic black bases that have the artistic value of a piece of cardboard...any day of the week. :lecture

Clearly, there have been significant strides made in the last 10 years regarding the quality of "pop art" collectible statues. And clearly the sophistication level of most collectors has also increased significantly. Gone are the days where a company can pump out one substandard [likeness-wise] statue after another and expect collectors to purchase them no matter what. Sure, we haven't seen much from this collection so far, but for those of us who have the ability to not only recognize quality, but who also chose quality over quantity, this is the LOTR line for us. As for the rest.....feel free to stick with what you've got. :lol

This will most likely ship Aug/Sept, so just keep stashing $$ away - no partying:monkey3, no lunch:thud:, no getting ill:sick, etc.

In the end you know it'll be worth it!
Beans on toast is already the main part of my regular diet Valarauko. Guess I could miss lunch for a while too :(.

I think I will bring out a book on how collecting SS 1/6 maquettes and PF can be a major way to lose weight :rotfl.

Who am I kidding...Legolas Maquette will be mine no matter what :yess:.

Man, Trevor knocked that ____ right out of the park (again). Its gonna be nice to own a Legolas solo statue that truly looks like the movie and I like that its from the Helms Deep sequence timeframe with the shoulder pads.

QFT :lecture And the option of displaying him with his Galadhrim bow or fighting knives isn't bad either. :wink1: :)

You have to read better.
I said the bad guys were phenomenal.
And you start comparing with bad guys ...

I would say that the baddies (orcs, nazgul, goblins, uruk-hai) are easier to do, since you don't have a specific, well-known face to deliver (exceptions-Saruman & Wormtongue). IMO, with the job SS has done so far on human characters, we can expect some truly impressive statues of Sauron's legions! I can't wait!

Do you really think you can have an honest debate with someone who choses to compare SS's Aragorn, GTG, and Legolas maquettes with SSW's Ringwraith on Steed, Balrog, and Cave Troll statues? :cuckoo: Personally, I'll stick with comparing one Aragorn to another, one Legolas to another, etc....:monkey3

That is absolutely true and you will never find a sculptor anywhere who will tell you otherwise. Capturing a human likeness is THE most difficult thing to do.......

Been there, done that my friend! That actually sounds pretty good to me, may try it. Isn't it amazing what passion for something leads us to do?

That will be nice as well. Gonna be hard to decided on which to go with.

I'll be ordering both the excl. and reg. edition so that won't be a concern for me....finding the space will be my biggest problem.

This is the best likeness of Orlando Bloom yet. A no-brainer buy for me. Not even tempted to pick up the PF anymore. And besides a couple of grail pieces I'm still after, I'm no longer interested in trying to secure any of the Sideshow/Weta pieces anymore. I've left my comments on the preview page. I'm committed to this line as long as Sideshow is.

How do you not see Orlando Bloom?
