I originally started with 1/4 scale statues but I was new and didn't really know what I was getting into. I've sold those off a while back and just recently started collecting 1/6 statues and that is definitely my comfort zone. I've got two Koto pieces with several others either waiting to get here or are on preorder. I haven't been let down yet. There are a couple of older Bowen pieces I'd like to eventually get if I can get them for the right price.

You hit it right in the head. It is all about personal comfort. I also feel more comfortable with the 1/6 scale range nowadays. It works perfect for me. If Sideshow decides to go back to smaller dioramas, I wouldn't have a problem. Their dioramas made by Martin Canale were exceptional.

You my man have good taste...:lecture

Everyone has QC issues at one time or another. SS seems to be having more so than other here lately. I think they've gotten a little too big for their britches. The last couple I've got from them are crap. Also, the delays and stuff is another subject. As far as customs....when artists charge $3000 for a 1/4 scale, the commissioner has to charge high prices on the casts to make their money back. However, I've seen some that are insane. For ex. I saw a Juggernaut on Evilbay that Sheridan Doose did for $1200 unpainted? Can't earn all your money back with just one cast...sorry. When the insanity stops, the high prices will too. I feel what eventually happen, is that people will get it tired of the bs with these companies issues and overpriced customs, and quit collecting altogether. Any thoughts?

Might be $400 MSRP, but those GG Babydoll statues on the 2nd market are like gold at the moment. Even with those clear base they're erected on...:dunno

Yah but that was the first 18" statue by GG. You can only do so many clear base before it boring. It appears all 1:4 Marvel, Waking Dead, Honey Trap & Shanna has clear acrylic bases. That's a little lacklustre if you tell me especially given the price point they want for there statues.

:exactly:...Everything has its shelf life and this statue craze will be no different from everything else that was highly collectible at one point in time. Even Sideshow statues have hit a price point where I know many older collectors have dropped off collecting. Gone are the days where a collector could collect many different lines e.g. LSB's, Comiquettes, Premium Formats, Dioramas etc. We're not even going to go into the different franchises that many of us like as well. Either way it's only a matter of time before this hobby crumbles beneath itself. If not then that's good for the hobby in general.

I'm sorry maybe this is just the art part of me talking but $1200 for a limited cast doesn't seem like a ton to me. I mean have you ever seen what a Carol A. Feuerman or Richard Moore III(one of my favorites) goes for? Granted, we're talking Pop culture and casted pieces but still. Good Art isn't cheap, and this while appealing to our inner childs, is still art.

I prefer 1/6. Perfect size for me. And it just seems like 1/6 statues always have more details. I've been collecting Kotos for almost 10 years now so I'm a bit biased towards them. Especially Erick Sosa's work for Koto. Bowens are usually pretty boring and it seems as if they always go for a more realistic look and I prefer my comic book characters to look like they do in the comics. Action Thor is nice but his build is so small compared to Sosa's Classic Avengers Thor. I prefer larger than life.

No more lacklustre than an "x" base or "a" base. The paint jobs on these are worth the price alone.

See, I think the opposite. Although the price of the 1/6 is alluring alone. But compared to the 1/4 scale definition, and action poses for the most part.

The coolest koto's I've seen are the classic avengers, but even then, they are so smooth and undefined compared to the 1/4 SS.

But to be honest, I was first introduced to collecting by seeing a bunch of 1/6 scale koto statues, looked further into it, found out they SS did a 27 inch tall Skaar. Who is my favorite marvel character.(Wish they gave him a long lasting series/arc)

Sideshow wins this war hands down. It's not even close. I started the hobby with Bowen and although there's a handful of great sculpts I would never sell, you would have to pry my Captain PF out of my dead hands to have a chance at it.... SS Gambit vs. ?????? Bowen? Koto? Anyone that had those three statues in hand would be lying to themselves if they kept anything but sideshows PF . Have you guys noticed a surge of Bowen Planet Hulk and Apocolypse statues suddenly flooding eBay? Weird... As far as qc issues they exist with every manufacture. I've had issues with every major company but when SS gets it right.... Forget about it. Although I would love to see some healthy competition in the 1/4 scale department to add some variety and keep the prices competitive Ill pay SS every single penny of their $600 asking price for a massive 30 in 40 lb Gladiator Hulk

The tendency these last few years has been to supersize everything. We went from smaller scale to larger scale in no time. Even newer Bowen pieces are larger than the old ones. Yes, I understand the allure of having big statues in your collection but it gets old after awhile. For starters they price tag is getting ridiculous, you have the challenge of limited space, display options and the nowadays predominant museum pose. Like everyone else, I have done my good share of Sideshow statues but I am turning back to more affordable, good quality and easier to collect and to display smaller pieces.

I totally agree with your view.

A few days ago, Erick Sosa posted this on his Facebook. Very clever and interesting thoughts from someone on the inside. Check it out:

This Comic Con made me and a lot of my industry friends realize that Comic Con should be renamed Movie Con or Media Con ( nothing wrong with that) , that Collectibles companies are hurting big time, very few new releases, Hot Toys taking up one third of that other company's booth... Why? because their product is cheaper and high in quality. At this very moment companies are letting go of their freelance force, letting go of product managers left and right...keeping things in house, "restructuring"... ask Mattel, Hasbro, SS. Not just just those companies but a few from what I hear, the economy is not good, people are spending less. Huge product at huge prices is probably not what people can afford anymore, even if it looks better ...this is not just my opinion but a reality of our time... this is why small PVC stuff is seeing a tremendous rise in sales.... smaller companies with smaller overhead, and smaller price tags is the way to go....someone asked me on a previous post what my take was on Comic Con, this is it.... it is not a negative thing, all I am saying is adapt or....

Make better product at a smaller scale, cheaper price tag, don't get a big head, try to listen to your fan base for they are the reason your company is still standing and you should be OK.... I know I sound like a prophet of doom but remember these words 3-5 years from now.

Bowen makes statues that look like they have been ripped right from the Comic pages.

Sideshow never get this right imo, they always look too realistic and stylized for me.

There are some exceptions like the Spidey Comiquette but for the most part i think SS fails to capture that comic book essence like Bowen does.

I'm not buying Marvel statues because of the movies, the TV shows, the animations etc i'm buying them because of reading the books so when i get the statues i want them to look like the books and Bowen's the only one who gets this right.

That SS Thanos posted earlier is so ****ing horrible lol, i don't know how anyone could like it.
