She's just not a likeable character for a lot of people for obvious reasons, the biggest problem is her design, if she was more similar to what she looked like in concept art then someone would've already made a figure or pack for her.
I feel badly for the voice actor, Troy Baker, who played Joel. I mean he probably didn't expect TLOU to be such a huge hit. And when you are part of a huge hit, the idea of 4-5 installments as said voice actor in the future could end up being a pretty sweet financial windfall. And then, effectively, he was written out.
The worst part was, he was probably forced to do those cringe interviews to defend what happened in TLOU2. Or leveraged to do so.
It's inexplicable how a franchise with so much potential died from self inflicted self sabotage. At some point, to try to squeeze out a little more money, they'll try to retcon what happened to Joel and call it a dream sequence. I also remember hearing old interviews and podcasts from Ronald D Moore when he made the Battlestar Galactica reboot. He pointed out the show had a pretty small budget, but what was a huge difference was the love, care and attention that was given by people on the show behind the scenes who just plain loved the show, loved the IP, love the story, loved the characters, and it reflected in the high production quality all around. So I also feel badly for the people who worked on TLOU, gave their blood to make it great and loved it, because they were betrayed as well.
I hope no one makes Abby.
The booby prize, of course, is that if The Last Of Us on HBO becomes a hit, it might spring board Neil Druckmann into the limelight enough to write for other existing franchises, which he might promptly kill off as well with the same self inflicted insanity. Abby is only part of the problem, the real long term threat is Druckmann himself.
On an aside, you do great work and it's something great for our hobby. So thank you. And Merry Xmas.
Well there are 2 types of gamers, one who play games because they love the characters and another which love gameplay and setting. Personally I always pick games bc of the characters. For me this game has always been about Joel's journey as a father who lost his only child. One of the best characters I have ever met. Whole idea of the story is about him being a father figure and protecting Ellie at all costs,he sees her as his daughter, wants to get inner peace after losing his own.I go deeper than I should but it is what is it. About enemies you say it like other game characters don't kill gazillion ppl for no reason. To each their own. I love part 2. It may have some pacing and structure issues but the ambitious story is what I can really appreciate. They always knew during development they wouldn’t be able to satisfy everyone with the story. But that didn’t stop them from telling it.
The story takes risks and is not your typical sequel. Joel had his death coming. In the first game it’s mentioned many times that he has tons of enemies from when he was doing shady business for shady people. Joel’s past follows him everywhere.!
For me the last of us isn’t necessarily about Joel and Ellie. Or Abby for that matter. As much as I love the characters a last of us story could be about any group of survivors and their struggles.
They’ll have no problem making a part 3 about new characters.
I feel like the moral/ theme of the story went over your head. Killing Abby would accomplish nothing. Revenge begets nothing but more anger and sorrow.Well there are 2 types of gamers, one who play games because they love the characters and another which love gameplay and setting. Franchise without Joel and Ellie for me gonna be just a generic post apocalyptic story with zombies. There are so many games like that already. I'm still very disappointed with their choices, will never heal from this and Arthur's death. It is just wrong.
While as a standalone game part 2 is well made game, it isn't something I'll go back for entertainment. If were Ellie I'd kill Abby with bare hands. They should have let us choose how to end Abby's life. I can understand her motives but I still don't agree with her. Her father was going to kill Ellie and Joel just protected her. I'd do same. I'd kill everyone around to protect my beloved ones. Everyone would.
As Arthur said ''Revenge is a fool's game'' but still let me kill Abby OK?I feel like the moral/ theme of the story went over your head. Killing Abby would accomplish nothing. Revenge begets nothing but more anger and sorrow.

Not to pick you apart or anything because I ultimately agree that having the choice in the matter would be great, but I feel like it’s a total contradiction to say that you play the game for the characters but then claim those characters should behave based on your personal views of how they should act.If were Ellie I'd kill Abby with bare hands. I agree and also don't agree. The bright examples of "giving the choice and also tell the story" are Witcher 3 and RDR2. I absolutely love how the story development is in my hands based on my actions. That could totally work with TLOU as well, but developers had other plans, which weren't good plans imo. These games are for entertainment not for stress and sorrow. It took me a long time to process Joel's death. You can't kill the main character in a second game in a way they did. He deserved betterNot to pick you apart or anything because I ultimately agree that having the choice in the matter would be great, but I feel like it’s a total contradiction to say that you play the game for the characters but then claim those characters should behave based on your personal views of how they should act.
Throwing aside the obvious argument “it’s a video game of course you get to control them” for a second, TLOU has characters that clearly blur that line by acting on their own volitions.
A major point at the end of 2 is a direct callback to the original. Joel canonically kills, I believe, all 3 doctors who are in the room with Ellie (Whether or not you actually do it as a player is irrelevant now. I personally never killed more than the one swinging around the scalpel because I thought I was going to be forced to) and that sense of moral dilemma in the face of revenge directly lead to Tiger Woods. Ellie canonically grew past that mental state and was able to find it in herself to do something which both Joel or Abby couldn’t.
If we, as a player, could choose the outcome of those situations, then the developers/writers couldn’t really be able to tell the story that they fully intended to. While not outright defending the dev’s choice to restrict us of ours, I think it shows that they ultimately wanted to curate a specific story with characters that have their own obstinate morals which players won’t sway.
Arthur is from a different franchise and his circumstances are completely different than Ellie’s. Hell, Arthur lived in a fully functioning world whereas Ellie’s world is very post apocalyptic. You can’t compare the two.As Arthur said ''Revenge is a fool's game'' but still let me kill Abby OK?
