Apparenlty if he killed himself then, he would never grow old and become Willis Joe and go back and bla bla bla. Some logic is off but do you kind of understand?
I guess I sort of get it.
Joe was ultimately responsible (as Old Joe) for setting Sid on the path to becoming the Rainmaker (by murdering his mother), so by killing himself and preventing Old Joe from killing Sid's mom, he allowed Sid to develop into a "normal", healthy, good human being instead of the bloodthirsty tyrant he was in the prior future.

This was a fun flick. It had good character arcs, wasn't dumb, it wasn't the end all be all of movies this year, but it was original, and clever. And that is well appreciated.
