This figure looks like it has great shelf presence. Great pics, para. Like the chin strap hanging down. Likeness still looks good like that.

Thanks guys :duff

It's really strange how the likeness drops off once you take the helmet off. With the helmet on, I prefer this to the HT.

They seemed to nail the lower portion of his face. Something not quite right about the eyes and the hair is a disaster...I also despise the extremely rigid boots. Any ideas for replacements?

Really interesting to see what you could pull off helmetless (always love your combo of lighting and quality image,) but yeah, this is a fig that shines to HT levels and above with helmet on, without it, it comes down to angles, lighting and distance to make it look decent - which it can.

The way the HT figs came out in your pics, they appeared to be real people - the SSC Luke clearly doesn't look like that.

The other issue is the shoulders look very boxy - maybe it's the body plus tailoring interaction.

These are what I used. They are softer "feet in boots" type, so you need a body with feet (the stock SSC Luke X body doesn't,) but it provides ankle articulation. These boots are very similar and worth stocking up on - they are usable for Imperials, rebels, plus also Nazis in IJ.

Even shown in its best light, I don't see how anyone can like that headsculpt (uncovered).

I'm also not a fan of the too-tight (IMHO) flightsuit nor its denim-esque material... so this figure just doesn't work for me regardless of the beautiful photography.

Helmet-on is a winner, I think the material is great, not too denim-y. Can't argue about the fit - I'd say it's a touch snug and the body's too broad-shouldered.

One of my favourites, limitations and all.

It be what it be.

Yeah not sure what Wor-gar means by denim-y. It's not.

not too denim-y.

I probably used the wrong word. It has that subtle striped weave -- that is often used for "faux denim" on figures. Seems like a thinner material -- especially when tripling up with pockets -- would have been a better choice. Like the material that HT made Luke Farmboy's pants with.

Wor-Gar, I honestly think that the flight suit is one of the figure's best qualities. It may like like faux denim in the pic but in person it looks really good. I have a feeling that Hot Toys will end up releasing a snow-speeder Luke version and this figure will end up being forgotten, but in the meantime, with the helmet on, it really fits in perfectly with any Hot Toys Star Wars figure released so far. I really have no regrets for picking it up (on a great sale)...

Hmm...I don't really see a weave in-hand. It reminds me a little of DX07's clothing, but maybe not as stiff?

Mine also looked better after I steamed the suit. Not orders of magnitude better, just a little more relaxed. Photos tomorrow in better light.

I feel the same way about it. And I really hope HT does that. I double-dog dare them.

Exactly this.

The helmet transforms the head, and the visor transforms the eyes.

With the helmet off it's a completely different face.

The hair is probably a big factor, as without it the sculpt looks better.

So put the helmet on the HT head and they end up looking equal.

How can SSC charge $240 for such a mediocre production head. It doesn't even look like Luke with the helmet off, having half a sculpt being acceptable is pretty ridiculous.

Wow. I love that steel-blue look in your pics, especially on Vader.

I knew HT Vader is a little oversized but he looks pretty massive there next to Luke. Luke without the helmet wouldn't even come to his shoulder. From memory, Vader should be a touch over 13" and Luke a touch over 11 1/2" without X-Wing helmet. It could be that Luke's legs are splayed but Vader's are together, making Vader that little bit taller.
