The dog looks great to me! I agree with Kuato that the eyes should be normal and not bulging out. Toy Anxiety was the way that it is now with normal or bulging eyes in your pictures?

I have not made any changes since that picture was taken, so to clarify since I'm a bit confused by the responses, should I modify the eyes for painting purposes or are they good the way they are? He is baked at this point, but making that modification would not be difficult.

Come on guys, don't you like my Mad Michael custom? No comments, really?

Seriously though, thanks for all the positive comments on the dog. To me, I see several ways it could be better, but I don't claim to be an expert, and I'd like to move on. We've spent A LOT of time on Max stuff, and there's so much more to do. I'm working on a couple of other heads myself. If they turn out, I'll start a new thread.

I'm not sure the eye question has been understood. Right now, the irises are carved (or "bulging" if you will). The whites of the eye are a bit recessed. Carved won't look good when glossed; the carving will always look like carving.

The alternative Dan is asking about would be to make the eyes smooth domes, which would mean the painter would decide how big to make the irises, which way they are looking, etc. and that gloss coating will make them look like real eyes.

I would prefer that they not be carved, but I can always make them smooth by filling the depressions with milliput or something similar.

I agree with Gruff Old Bear about the dog's eyes. I think they should be carved, and made as "smooth domes" so that it is up to the painter to make them how they want them to look.

seriously the dog's face looks close to perfect to me
The eyes look ok the way they are

the body's a bit "bubbly" looking (the anatomy is slightly off, as if the dog is rubbery) but that takes practice I think.

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I realize it's lacking a bit in the anatomy department, especially in his lower legs, which are a bit bigger than they should be. I got some of it such as his shoulder blades, and a little bit of definition here and there, but yes, I need practice. Regardless, painted up, I think it's gonna look really good, and I think he looks good standing next to a figure. Hopefully you guys are all satisfied as the comments seem to suggest. It is as done as it's going to get. I have another dog I'm going to sculpt for another upcoming project. It will be a Cavestie (hint hint).

According to Kuato, he is done with the Riggs hair, and nearly done with a paint up of Max. He said he'd post pics of both when they are both done. Regardless, we will, as requested, start a new Riggs thread. Will let everyone know here when that happens.

On another note, I lost my local caster, so there's a delay on the knee and shoulder pads. I'm going to offer the kit without them for now, and will do so when I get back from vacation next week. I have to come up with the price and post final pics of what the kit will be comprised of, so stay tuned. We will then offer the pads and dog once they are ready. I have already set up a new caster, actually 2, but will have to send the parts to them to get them done, so shipping time is now a factor.

Yeah, thanks! I'm looking forward to the Max head sculpt(I don't have one yet), and the Max gear and his dog, and the Martin Riggs head sculpt! Two of my favorite Mel Gibson movie characters! :)
