I love that after years and years of Michael Bay and Fast and Furious flicks Miller just comes back and takes them all to school.

I enjoyed Sucker Punch (yep, I'm one of the five) and even I have to wince at how embarrassing Snyder's approach to "girl empowerment" was compared to Miller's.

and the box office will tell all the studios that they don't need to bother with good action because people will watch whatever has the most explosions and the hottest babes...

thanks America, this is why we can't have nice things :lol :crying

I think the greatness of it is that I wouldn't even have been aware of it had a big deal not been made of it in the media. I would have just watched the film and taken it as is. And isn't that the goal of gender equality or any kind of equality battle? To reach a point where it isn't even 'a thing'?

Great... now all day long I'm going to be thinking about "Captain Walker" and "Member when" and "tomorrow marrow land"! :lol

Sigh, yes, you are of course correct. We finally have a truly brilliant film but at the end of the day FR's 44 million compared to FF7's 150 or whatever million is what will drive future films.

I agree and normally I hate it when people talk about how some chick is "empowered" because she put on a costume or fights some guys in a movie but for this one movie I'm really on board with the praise. I really *didn't* see Charlize or anyone as anything other than absolutely equal to Max, and as you said it was an unconscious realization because it was all portrayed so seamlessly.

Even James Cameron kind of made chicks badass in a way that always made me realize that that was a message that I was *supposed* to be receiving. But in Fury Road I never thought, "oh cool, the girl is getting her day." No, I thought "oh cool, FURIOSA is getting her day." Well done Miller, well done.

That was precisely what I was going to say, after reading Khev's post. But this is nothing new. Truly good things are rarely the most popular. Instead, we get products made for the masses, and the median moviegoer isn't a film geek. It's some teeny bopper or frat guy going out on a date, or some middle aged couple. Watered down, mediocre movies like Fast and the Furious, Lord of the Rings, and the Transformers appeal to these people. Even something that's far from explicitly intellectual or nerdy like Mad Max is tough for these people, because it's too "extreme" for a lot of them, or they aren't as familiar with the source franchise, or it doesn't have ****** rap or Lincoln Park theme songs or whatever. I'm thankful that Max is doing as well as it is.

The masses suck sometimes, they really do.

The box office take sucks, but oh well. Should've have just put Gibson back in it. :lol

Thought the movie was pretty damn good. Clearly not a sequel to the original flicks, but takes place the later movies world.

Vehicles were awesome. Love the fine details they were given. Stacked Caddie prolly my favorite.

The action. Lots of explosions, but meaningful explosions! Other than the wild car explosion in the tornado, all the destruction and action looked legit. No Vinny lifting up cars or jumping across three building.

Hardy was serviceable I guess. I think there are a number of actors or nobodys that could have given the same performance. Plus I hear he wasn't easy to work with.

Overall, not quite The Road Warrior, but then again, what is.....

the movie might break even but it won't have much profit. that will scare studios even more

I honestly think R rated movies are at a near end. they will die soon (at least on a big budget blockbuster way)

Yeah at one point when someone died it even looked like a dummy was being run over. So whether it was a real or CG dummy I thought sweet! :lol

The impression I got was that Hardy just wasn't seeing the big picture and was wondering if they were just making some stupid ass movie in the desert and so he thought he could just be a ****. Once he started seeing the assembled footage he was all "crap, I better freaking apologize quick!" :lol

Sad but very true. This will not be perceived as a hit. It will be lucky to break 100M here in the states (which many think doesn't count any more but believe me, when most of the power's that be live here, it does).

Amazes me that Cameron will waste a bloody fortune making 3 more Avatars -- something's wrong with the man, he doesn't realize that his monster hit was a fluke and driven by an excellent gimmick (3D) -- yet this film which may get lost in the summer shuffle will almost certainly be re-watched a million times more than anything this summer.

I woke up this morning still thinking about the visuals.

This is the most financially successful movie in the series, too premature to be getting dressed for the funeral wouldn't you say, hollywood movie sites are saying that the word of mouth and weak competition until JW might make this the number 1 next weekend and beyond.

I see this taking the #1 spot away from PP next weekend.

It has been written that WB is celebrating this movie.

Besides, EF liked it, all is good in this world. :lol

Alright, i'm off to watch more Transformers and Fast and the Furious.

Good. As they should. I don't know that I need a ton more Mad Max movies at this point (though I see that Hardy is signed on for three more if need be) but at the end of the day their confidence in the franchise is the only thing that matters.

You don't think Tomorrowland will crack the top 2?

Yes, you're right. But when PP2 does double the business you just have to wonder -- just how many girls and boy-girls are there here?

:slap Piece of **** -- you had to remind me. Who was just talking about the family-friendly films...?
