I love that after years and years of Michael Bay and Fast and Furious flicks Miller just comes back and takes them all to school.
I enjoyed Sucker Punch (yep, I'm one of the five) and even I have to wince at how embarrassing Snyder's approach to "girl empowerment" was compared to Miller's.

and the box office will tell all the studios that they don't need to bother with good action because people will watch whatever has the most explosions and the hottest babes...
thanks America, this is why we can't have nice things
I think the greatness of it is that I wouldn't even have been aware of it had a big deal not been made of it in the media. I would have just watched the film and taken it as is. And isn't that the goal of gender equality or any kind of equality battle? To reach a point where it isn't even 'a thing'?

That was precisely what I was going to say, after reading Khev's post. But this is nothing new. Truly good things are rarely the most popular. Instead, we get products made for the masses, and the median moviegoer isn't a film geek. It's some teeny bopper or frat guy going out on a date, or some middle aged couple. Watered down, mediocre movies like Fast and the Furious, Lord of the Rings, and the Transformers appeal to these people. Even something that's far from explicitly intellectual or nerdy like Mad Max is tough for these people, because it's too "extreme" for a lot of them, or they aren't as familiar with the source franchise, or it doesn't have ****** rap or Lincoln Park theme songs or whatever. I'm thankful that Max is doing as well as it is.and the box office will tell all the studios that they don't need to bother with good action because people will watch whatever has the most explosions and the hottest babes...

Sigh, yes, you are of course correct. We finally have a truly brilliant film but at the end of the day FR's 44 million compared to FF7's 150 or whatever million is what will drive future films.
*glares at avatar, shakes head disapprovingly*The masses suck sometimes, they really do.

Other than the wild car explosion in the tornado, all the destruction and action looked legit.
Hardy was serviceable I guess. I think there are a number of actors or nobodys that could have given the same performance. Plus I hear he wasn't easy to work with.

Truth is, sometimes the masses get it right. Star Wars (the original) is one of the best examples. T2 is another one. But more often, they don't.I more had in mind your Fast and Furious 12s, your Transformers 9s and your Saw 26s. Enough is enough with this tripe.
It has been written that WB is celebrating this movie.
I see this taking the #1 spot away from PP next weekend.
This is the most financially successful movie in the series, too premature to be getting dressed for the funeral wouldn't you say,
You don't think Tomorrowland will crack the top 2?
