eh. IMO florida has always been a rather cruddy pro sports state. thats why it took so long to get teams aside from the Dolphins. people don't show up to most of their events. same with atlanta. maybe its justs a southern thing and all they care about is college football.

This is pretty much what it boils down to. The Rays had no fanbase to speak of until 2008. I remember going to games at the Trop with the Sox fans being the clear majority as late as '06. It probably doesn't help that the Yankees are pretty ingrained to the area with Tampa being their spring training site.

As for the expenses of going to a game these days, I know the feeling. The Sox have "sold out" every game since May of '03. Scalpers really had everyone at the throat until early this year. This is without the ridiculous concession prices and trying to park in downtown Boston.:panic:

I don't know, the Bucs tickets are always hard to get a hold of unless you pay crazy $$. I was on the list for season tickets for a good 3 years before my name came up for a chance to buy in.

I've always enjoyed going to Rays games, but as I already mentioned its a huge ordeal....almost as bad as going to Disney during the summer.

When I used to live in San Jose, it used to be an ordeal to get to A's and Giants games. But thats like 40 miles.

Right now I drive about 25 miles to go to the Rockies or Nuggets games, its not too bad. Here in Colorado everyone is used to driving about 20 miles to get to anything. Our airport is 20+ miles away from downtown.

Indians pitcher David Huff just took a line drive to the head from Arod. That poor guy just doesn't have the luck. :(

I understand that. Tampa has so many places they could propose for a baseball stadium it isn't funny.

~~Oh, I just read yesterday that the city of Tampa is putting in a bid to host the next World Cup!! Woo!! I've always wanted to go to a World Cup game.

Are they still talking about a new stadium on the waterfront in Tampa? I think I remember seeing conceptual drawings a while back, but nothing since.:dunno

I think it got shot down because nobody wanted to front the cash to build it. (This was back when the Rays were really, really crappy and nobody cared if they got a new stadium. Now might be a different story since they've seemed to finally started playing decent baseball)

We are tied with the Yanks now for second place in the division.

Four game win streak for the Jays, two game losing streak for the Rays.

Man, they should have left it Devil Rays.

Almost a third perfect game thrown this year, but blown by an umpire.

MLB umps are really giving the NBA a run for their money when it comes to ____ty officiating.

I just saw that game. Umps suck! I'm a Indians fan and me, and the Indians commentators, were throwing a hissy.

Though I do have to say that some are saying even if he was safe the ump should've called him out. No, I don't agree with that at all. But in this case, the ump blew it.

:lecture :lecture

He was out by a WHOLE STEP. An ENTIRE STEP. That's not even a close play.

Disgusting. Even the batter knew he was out!

The Ump is from Toledo, which is home to the Tigers AAA team, the Mudhens.

The Ump does feel bad about it and felt at the time he made the right call. I guess he's even been threatened, so he can't be on the field tomorrow. This kinda of stuff brings the crazies out.
