There's never ANY excuse for threatening an umpire, but I don't know how he can think it was the right call when everyone else in the stadium, even the batter, knew it was an out.

Or how bad hitting has been.

Honestly, I think the pitchers have been having to handle the roided freaks for so long, that now that steroids are moving out of the sport, the pitchers are just that much better.

So sad to see a once in a lifetime chance taken away like that, when a pitcher is having a magical night; he should get the calls. :slap :pfft:

It sucks and I hope this pushes MLB to use replay in more ways than they do now. However, thats the great thing about Baseball is the human element.

A sad day for the game IMO. One of the best players to ever play the game in Ken Griffey Jr. has called it quits. If his career hadn't been hurt by injuries he would be the all time Home Run king.

He said he thought he made the right call at the time. When I first saw it, I thought it was bang, bang. Slow it down and it's obvious. I would never want to be a umpire. Thankless job for sure. Too bad they don't adopt instant replay for things like this.

Griffey is probably my favorite player to ever play that isn't on a team I cheer for. The Kid was just a class act, I do wish he never left Seattle though. I really think that team would have won some WS if he stuck around.

:lecture.........without all the roids, pitchers are dominating again

:lecture....... KG jr. defn one of my fav players of all time, great player and career. If he would have stayed healthy, he would be home run leader.

that Selig ____er is the worst commissioner of a league I have ever seen in my life. What does it hurt to give the guy the perfect game? It doesnt change the outcome of the actual game itself. They should have been using replay a long time ago on everything except balls and strike calls. With all the steroid stuff in the past, this kind of thing just cements his ass as a terrible commissioner.

I agree with what Selig did. You can't go changing things like this after the fact. If you do it opens a can of worms for people to _____ about having other things changed. Whats done is done. The kid seems to have moved on with it so time for us to do that too.

too bad that means crap in the win column

:lecture :lecture. I'll take a win over a home run any day of the week.

Well, I think they should reward the way the Umpire and the player handled themselves. I think, when you have a opportunity to bail out the ump here, they should. Its obvious the ump was extrememly upset with blowing the call, I dont think they should make him have to live with this call for the rest of his life cause you know it will haunt him.

I guess I'm one of the few that could never stand Griffey. Won't shead a tear for him retiring.

Why? What really makes this so special that we change the rules for it? Everyone has said it happens and are moving on. The Ump will have to live with it either way and he's being given a lot of credit for admitting the mistake. Fix replay in baseball and thats enough.

How could you not stand Griffey? Classy kid who played hard and the right way.

I won't argue about someone's hero. There are a lot of things I didn't like.

One thing I personally didn't like was the way he didn't run out balls because he was too busy grandstanding his homers, even when they didn't go out. Bonds was good at that too.

i wouldn't undo what the umpire called, because of the pandoras box it would open to undoing plays that cost games and victories.

that said, its just a personal achievement and theres nothing wrong with adding his name to the record books as a perfect game by putting an asterix on it.
