Re: The Man of Steel

Actually it isn't. WB/DC has said that the Justice League movie would be in a different continuity than the Batman films or upcoming Superman, Green Lantern and even Flash films. JL:M is still using a John Stewart Green Lantern not Hal like the GL film. The strange thing is when they talked about the reboot they said that any Justice League film would be put on hold, yet George Miller seems to be functioning as normal pushing forward with his film and cast without signs of slowing.

WB/DC is gambling that general audiences will be able to separate the films and their specific "universes" but judging by the difficulty of the general populus in regards of the Incredible Hulk film and being able to separate that from the 2003 version or even the doubts that people will be able to separate Superman Returns from the next incarnation, this might be a troubling thing and confusing for some. Its already troublesome that Batman will be younger than Bruce in BB and functioning fully as Batman in the first place.

That article was an interview with the actor cast for Batman in JL. Funny that they'd have Batman training with guns? But it sounds like just the actor and wishful thinking about a project that almost went. Nothing in there about JL being an active project.

I have more faith in movie studios now. They actually read internet chatter and aren't operating in the vacuum they used to. So we won't see a black clad Superman running around a night time Metropolis hunting a homicidal, purple clad Luthor. More and more true fans are getting involved in the filmmaking process - and that has resulted in Iron Man. Even non fans like Nolan can be faithful to the character if they're good filmmakers.

So what's your reasoning for thinking that the WB is going to tell Nolan to put a reference in his movie for one Justice league film that may or may not happen when this one is in the works and may or may not happen with a completely different guy playing Batman. You said it yourself they would be gambling. Don't you think WB is thinking the same.

There was no problem releasing Superman Returns when Smallville is at the height of it's run with a completely different take on the characters. I think they've gotten away from not wanting to pollute the continuity streams.

Re: The Man of Steel

I would put my money on Batman 3 being released anytime before JL:M....and I would put a fair amount of money on a couple of throwaways in that film towards other Justice League members. Especially considering that Batman 3 isn't even in preproduction yet and films like Green Lantern, Green Arrow: Escape from Supermax, The Flash are already deep in their PreProduction and will probably be filming before that one....Marvel has unified their films producing at the same time and I really see WB following suit.

In terms of JL:M, WB had already stated when that film was being fastracked that they wanted the continuity of Superman Returns and Batman Begins separate from that film which is why Routh or Bale were never considered.

I think there's a pretty big disparity between the two mediums there. It's easy to seperate tv and movies unless it's a movie about a tv show. I just can't imagine WB having two Justice Leauge movies in the works. One which we know doesn't include Bale as Batman, and the other which seems to be dead in the water. I just can't imagine the WB asking Nolan to include a cameo leading into one film over the other and especailly lead into a movie that includes the title character from his franchise that has someone other than Bale playing him. It just doesn't make sense, it's not Nolan's style, and I don't think WB will mess with Nolan's franchise. People would be more confused than trying to follow all the worlds and universes in the comics.

Re: The Man of Steel

I can't see anything wrong with a Justice League movie portraying an alternate Batman and Superman. The comics have alternate realities why can't the movies.
Take the recent Gotham Knight, I enjoyed watching the different interpretations of Batman on one DVD

too bad the mass majority are idiots.

One would think but WB/DC blantantly said that no Diana or Bruce in Smallville because Batman Begins was being planned then going strong and Wondy was in preproduction at the time. They didn't allow The Flash be specifically named because it unsure which Flash Goyer was preparing he was deciding between Wally West or Barry Allen. Those are TV shows and films being effected by one another. It has happened.

Justice League: Mortal was killed multiple times but I guarantee you that if WB wants a serious JL film it won't actually make it on film. I still think even if it does we'll get small throwaways just like the prior Batman films made references to Metropolis, etc. They are just thrown in for fun for the fans and that is more important then setting up anything.

Re: The Man of Steel

With a Justice League featuring Batman and Superman coming out while new franchises of both characters are still on-going would likely confuse many audience members. It's not like the comics where you have a strict audience that reads on a weekly basis. Movies by their nature, have to be more broad and appealing to the masses and not confusing from the very beginning. Smallville and Superman Returns were okay because one was a TV show with a built-in specialized audience and Superman Returns was a big-budget summer film. Two different audiences in many ways in two different mediums.

While Levitz has again confirmed the next Superman film will be a reboot starting over the franchise check out this little tidbit:

Paul Levitz Talks Batman, Superman and More!
Source:Latino Review October 10, 2008

Latino Review got a chance to talk to DC Comics President Paul Levitz this week about the status of the third Christopher Nolan-directed Batman film, the Superman reboot (Brandon Routh is still in the mix!), and more. Here are several clips:

In fact, he told me that "Last week Brandon Routh has come around the offices in New York and Los Angeles as of late to talk about Superman and what we want to do."

"Everyone is waiting for Nolan to sign on for another Batman, once that happens, the release date for Superman and all other future projects will follow. Green Lantern Summer 2010, Batman 3 Summer 2011, New Superman reboot Summer 2012"

Re: The Man of Steel

2012? At least we'll be able to watch it on our neural implants that boom simulated widescreen and Dolby 10.1 stereo directly into our craniums.

Re: The Man of Steel

2012 is good news for Routh....the further away from SR the better so WB can't use the "It'll confuse the audience" excuse. Although it sucks that as of today it'll be 4 years until we see Big Blue in the air again.

Re: The Man of Steel

I wonder if Mark Stetson will do the special effects again

I hope so. He did an incredible job on Returns. Some of the most convincing digital imagery that I've ever seen. What I appreciate about the effects the most is that they're truly apart of the story and that most don't even notice the effects because they flow so well with the story from scene to scene.

A few months ago, John Williams was scheduled to work on the Superman sequel as well.

I sincerely hope they keep Routh. Casting Superman is the hardest thing to do with a Superman film and they've got the guy that looks the part and knows how to play it and has experience. Plus, a few years from now, he'll be a few years older and look older as Superman, which should please some fans who thought he looked too young in Returns, despite being the same age as Christopher Reeve when he played the role.

Re: The Man of Steel

Hope this is in the film.
