I always thought the Donner films were overrated. So no surprise I didn't like SR.

Superman The Movie is the best comic book movie. It's just like a comic come to life. And you believe Reeve is Superman.

I think CR is fantastic, definitely makes you believe in the character. But the rest of the film around him just hasn't aged very well IMO

In fact Lois and Lex are both better written and acted in Smallville

Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor is the greatest criminal mastermind of our time.

He sucks in the Superman films after Superman II (what doesn't suck after Superman II), but he's great in the first and second. I hope Mr. Luthor is in Man of Steel. Not the main villain of course, but in some compacity.

The first two feel a little dated and a bit 70s and hokey (durrrrr, I wonder why that is) but all I need to see is the opening on Krypton, or Kansas with Ma and Pa Kent, or Clark Kent, or Superman's first appearance or William's score to be swept in again. I love the first two Supes, classics. Hopefully Man of Steel is a worthy addition to the Superman franchise and not a disappointment with Christ-like allusions and super sons. That was a big "WTF" for me.

S3 and S4:TQFP are undeniably bad for lots of well known reasons. The actors were professional and did what they could. Jon Crier said Christopher Reeve at one point apologized to him knowing what the film meant to the young actor's career.

But Superman 1 and 2 are among my favourite films. Especially the first one.

God I hope they don't use Lex as the villain until atleast the third Man of Steel film. They need to give that character a break. Superman is way too badass to have lex be his villain again. Lets see supes fight some of his other villains who have never been featured in a film before, like Brainiac, Darkseid, Metallo, or Doomsday. Im just tired of the same ole' Lex "has some missiles and kryptonite" story.

I think depending on which version they went with Brainiac could be a great choice. I think it would be cool if they started setting up Lex as a character in this film though

I don't want to see Lex Luthor again in a superman film, I want superman to show how super he is by fighting some real supervillains that can physically match up with him like Doomsday, and Darkseid. I want mayhem and destruction across cities.

Yeah I don't mind him being featured in one of the films, I just don't want him to be the main villain for a while.

I don't mind if they introduce Lex as a background character but he shouldn't directly influence the plot in this first film.
