Re: The Man of Steel

The guy who played Lex in Smallville is in his 40s now, anyone think he would make a good choice or too much of a confusing tie in with the TV show?

Re: The Man of Steel

S3 and S4:TQFP are undeniably bad for lots of well known reasons. The actors were professional and did what they could. Jon Crier said Christopher Reeve at one point apologized to him knowing what the film meant to the young actor's career.

But Superman 1 and 2 are among my favourite films. Especially the first one.

Re: The Man of Steel

I don't watch any of the original Superman movies. In my minds eye they're perfect and I'm not going to change that.

Re: The Man of Steel

Growing up in the 70's I also remember that before Superman The Movie came out I loved watching The Adventures of Superman every Saturday afternoon. George Reeves was "The First Superman" when I was little.

Are you listening Sideshow?

Re: The Man of Steel

As much as I love Reeve, I think this Superman movie will be my favorite. I think the darker more serious tone is a great choice and should work well for Supes. Im over the whole "magoo" saving cats from trees style Superman.

Re: The Man of Steel

In fact Lois and Lex are both better written and acted in Smallville :lol

Re: The Man of Steel

Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor is the greatest criminal mastermind of our time.

He sucks in the Superman films after Superman II (what doesn't suck after Superman II), but he's great in the first and second. I hope Mr. Luthor is in Man of Steel. Not the main villain of course, but in some compacity.

The first two feel a little dated and a bit 70s and hokey (durrrrr, I wonder why that is) but all I need to see is the opening on Krypton, or Kansas with Ma and Pa Kent, or Clark Kent, or Superman's first appearance or William's score to be swept in again. I love the first two Supes, classics. Hopefully Man of Steel is a worthy addition to the Superman franchise and not a disappointment with Christ-like allusions and super sons. That was a big "WTF" for me.

Dis Voidcat, Dis is da truth. :lecture

Imagine a movie series with a Batman that didn't want to be Batman.

Oh wait.

:lol :lol

Re: The Man of Steel

Superman Returns is under-appreciated. Over time I think people will re-evaluate it.

I've said before it functions better as a conclusion to the Donner films than as a start for something else.

I liked it more the first time I saw it. I don't think it holds up better under repeated viewings.
